If anyone has done a GPR or AEGD in the Massachusetts area I'd like to get an idea of what the programs are like and how your experience with either GPR or AEGD went. Considering AEGD at Boston University and wondering if anyone knows anything about the program and how that's benefited them. Also, GPR at Tufts or Mass Hospital. Would like to gather as much information as I can and would really appreciate getting some feedback from people who have done the programs or have looked into it.

Have read and heard conflicting comments about the programs either being a waste of time or a great way to sharpen up your skills and prepare you for the real world. I definitely don't want to waste time doing GPR or AEGD in the Mass are if it's not a great program. Thanks!

I'm very curious about this question myself, especially if anyone has any info about GPRs in non-Boston areas (Pioneer Valley, Springfield, the Berkshires.) Thanks!!

There are many good programs... you must check them out by speaking to the residents and visiting the programs....
For one year, any program in country may be good if it mets your needs...

One program that is good is Danbury Conn.

Do you by any chance have the ADA list of GPR programs by state handy? Their web site isn't the most "navigatable"....Thanks so much!!

I have the list on my hosp computer... will transfer it to the lap top... then post... that will be probably on Tuesday... later this month will be away at ADA meeting... then another accreditation site visit.

Remember for one year... many look for a good location... like Fla, Cal, or Denver(for those who like the snow)... or being in a different part of the country ... etc...

I dont know much about GPRs, but there are a couple of endo residents at tufts who did a GPR at mass general hospital. They told me the program was pretty competitive.....top 25% class rank standing, etc

Thanks so much! And good point about the location, though I promised my boyfriend he can choose the next city since I dragged him to Buffalo 😉

Talking to some of the recent residents at the AEGD program at BU, it resembles doing one year of Pros. They spend a lot of time doing fixed cases, but they also have to do most of their own lab work.

Thanks!!! 🙂🙂 Meh, nothing between Pittsfield and Worcester 🙁 I'm surprised Springfield/Northampton doesn't have anything.

Thanks for the list rarm1 🙂

Been trying to look up any publications that have detailed information of each school's program without success. The only one I've found so far is the ADEA survey of advanced education in 2003/2004?? That seems hella long to me like 10 years old?? Are there any newer publications out there? I'm sure schools now are not the same they were more than 10 years ago.

I'm looking for a program that is well rounded in all aspects of dentistry with the oppurtunity to further develop my clinical skills. This sounds like AEGD but GPR appears to the easier one to get into so would anyone know of a GPR in the above list that is more similar to AEGD? Thanks!

Been trying to look up information and it's not going anywhere 🙁

I'm just a first year, but from what I've heard (people are all too eager to give advice 😉) a GPR would offer your need of all aspects of dentistry and clinical skills. In fact, a lot of practicing dentists say that they're much more worthwhile than AEGDs if you want to get better and faster more quickly, since you have more autonomy, fewer people are breathing down your neck, and it's much more of a high-paced clinical setting than a "5th year" of dental school.

So I'm SURE it depends on the program, but don't discount GPRs just for that reason.

And I've heard that you can borrow books from your school...at least that way you can see which may have the more recent info before you actually purchase one.

If I can be of any other help...let me know... or call...
or if anyone wants to visit our program, we can arrange for it...
