Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has info about the Loyola GPR program. I'm interested in applying for their open position but have not heard anything about the program. What they have on their website sounds good...but so do most.

I wanted to know if it's a good program with good people running it, and if you're the OMS residents' "bitches". I've heard about some horror stories at other GPRs, so I wanted to know more about this one.

Thanks!

Hi,

Sorry if this response is too late, but I just registered today for the site. I finished my GPR at Loyola in 2007. It wasn't bad, you do a lot of rotations (anesthesia, internal med, ER) and you do 6 months at the VA for oral surgery and general dentistry. When I left we had just gotten a new OMFS director and he and the GPR director did NOT get a long and there was a lot of drama going on. I'm not sure if that's cleared up now. As far as the OMFS residents go, they're all pretty cool. I don't think they treat the GPRers as slaves, but you do help them and sometimes you feel like you do some of the grunt work, but you're pretty much on the same level as the OMFS first years. The amount of patients you get are not extreme, but you're not sitting around doing nothing either. I'm in endo now so I guess it was pretty good. Let me know if you have anything else you want to ask and I can try to answer it. Good luck

Any more recent residents or students know more info? How's the crown/implant experience, are there assistants/nice facilities, endo and perio surgery experiences...

I would like to know about this too if anyone has any info

Last I heard about Loyola was that they finally have a new director. Last year they didn't even have a director. The residents told me that they get the best experience at the VA rotation. The residents do have to do alot of grunt work. Have you looked into the Jesse Brown VA GPR in Chicago?
