when should you fill out this application? it says it is good for 180 days, so should you not fill it out until school begins?

Just from my experience with undergrad loans, I would say fill it out sooner than later. There is usually a processing time so unless you don't need this money as soon as school begins then I would do it now or in the next month. I'm pretty sure that their is no penalty for completing all the paperwork early.

Fill it out when the school sends you your financial aid package. That likely wont be a while, but you needn't do it any sooner. It only takes a couple of days to get an approval, but your school has to validate it with the lender first. Wait until they tell you to. Note, though, that you should have already filled out the FAFSA. Do that asap if you have not.

Thanks! just did the fafsa because I just did my taxes. Also, my school has sent the package, but I think I'll wait a little longer (it seemed like the offer is good for only 180 days and if you aren't in school already I doubt they'd give it to you).

But 180 days is 6 months. If your loan is disbursed anytime before this time in September, you should be fine? When you submit your application, the school will validate it and you should be set, no?
