Hi all- it's been a while since I've posted, but I am getting closer to preparing for my future career as a doctor and would greatly appreciate your thoughts!

Some background about me: I graduated from Duke in '04 (pre-med, with majors in Biology and Hindi), and have spent the last 3 years training with the US National Team in an Olympic Training Program in upstate New York. Sadly, we lost our qualifiers so we won't be in the 2008 Olympics, but I have decided to put a few more years into training in hopes of qualifying for the 2009 World Championships.

Anyway- I am headed overseas in August to play semi-professionally in France. I will still play with the National Team, but will gain a higher level of training and experience by being in Europe. I have a contract for one year, but may stay for two, and am planning to matriculate to med school in 2010.

The first year in France I will take intensive french classes at the University, with plans to do a masters in the second year (they said they would take me into the second year of the masters program because of my extensive lab experience, so it would only take me one year to complete).

When I spoke with my medical school advisor, she seemed to be under the impression this would be a waste of time, and that no medical school will care or even look at my graduate work from France.

Any thoughts on this? It is insanely cheap (around 500euros each semester), so that isn't really an issue. And I feel it could be helpful to my future career since I am interested in pursuing international public health (I want to do an MD/MPH).

I was hoping this may strengthen my application, but may end up having to do a post-bac year in the US anyway to try to make-up for my mediocre BCP as a result of making a C in orgo my freshman year. I'm still up in the air about that since the rest of my application is really strong.
