In light of the sudden grade replacement change, I would like some advice on how to proceed with this upcoming cycle.

My current stats as a non-traditional applicant:
without grade replacement: 2.95 cGPA, 2.63 sGPA
with grade replacement: 3.52 cGPA, 3.42 sGPA
Planning to take MCAT in upcoming months before cycle opens

- Over 2000 hrs of research experience with pending publication
- Over 500 hrs of clinical volunteering
- Leadership role as president of major student org
- Excellent recs from research mentor and student org advisor
- Shadowed DO family doctor and have DO rec

I was originally planning on applying widely to DO schools and also to SMPs as backup. Is this still a feasible plan? I am worried of the risk becoming a re-applicant to many schools in future cycles should this cycle not work out well.

You'd be well served with an SMP without grade replacement! I'd still take the MCAT when you were planning to.

I am terribly sorry about this devastating news. This policy change also affected me. I would apply to SMPs after you get your MCAT results back. You have solid Ecs. Best of luck!

Edited: it all falls on the Mcat.

Take the MCAT and see what happens. I think in the next few weeks we will have a better handle on how the DO schools will adapt to this change. As others have said, be open to an SMP. But hope is not lost and you can still realize this if you are willing to put in another year and more effort.
