Everyone always says when you have a bad semester to show an upward trend and you'll be ok. What if you bomb a course in your senior year? I got a D in orgo 1, but my other 4 courses I got As. I only had a C+ before (in an elective in my first semester of freshman year), otherwise nothing below a B+. How much is this going to kill me in the application process? How can I explain this? I can't exactly say i suck at orgo; I can't blame my professor? I can't say I was lazy and didn't study because I gave it everything I had to give and I still did miserably. How does one explain failure when they really can't?

Not with the same question. Sorry, I'm really feeling desperate and defeated.

You've got a slight downward trend. I bet if you graph it, it doesn't look as bad as you imagine. Anyway, the upward trend is really for those of us who screwed up bad at the beginning of undergrad. Remember, this is a trend, not exact. Seriously, graph your gpa's by semester, and add a trend line. I'll bet it is still an upward trend, or about level at the least. Besides, from what you told us, this organic chemistry grade is an outlier.

The orgo grade is an outlier but it's still there and does greatly effect the gpa. Mine did start like a 3.3, continue pretty much continuously upward to a 4.0 and now this semester it's back to around a 3.3 again.🙁

Are you talking overall GPA, or semester GPA? Actually, if you are talking either, retake organic and get a C or better and you will be fine.

Well, first, you're going to have to retake Orgo 1 because I htink every school requires a C or better. But, if you can retake it and do well in it, then I wouldn't stress so much about it.

I'm talking semester gpa. My overall gpa is around a 3.6. My science went down dramatically but with the rest of my grades being As my "everything but science" went up somewhat.

Yep, get a C or better on retake, and get better than 25 on the MCAT and you'll be fine. Worry more about working on extracurricular stuff if you haven't already. 👍
