Hey all,

I'm new to the forums and I just had a question about grades at a previous university I attended. I apologize if this has been covered before.

Back in Fall 2007, I attended a local university for mechanical engineering and didn't do so hot. The one semester I was there, I got an A-, C, D, and B-, which I'm ashamed to say averaged out to a 2.07 GPA.

I transferred to another university the semester after and have been there for over two years now. I currently have a 3.45 GPA.

I'm hoping to start applying to Osteopathic med schools in about a year. My question is: Do you think it would be worth going back and retaking the classes I received the C and the D in? These classes weren't pre-req classes or anything like that, but the C and the D still don't look very good on a transcript. Thanks for all your help!

If you have good grades in pre-reqs and show recent upward trends, AND those classes didn't have anything to do with medicine, I'd keep the scars to show adcoms that medicine is more right for you.

Unless of course your degree is in engineering...

I would go back and re-do the D showing that you can do well. It will show that something just happened the first time and you can explain that. I received a D in a class (pre-req), retook it and ended up with a B. I had to explain when I interviewed, but it helped me retaking the class.
