Hello

For the high school student who is enrolled in a "Health Career Pathways" program (remaining coursework is heavy AP/Honors, STEM classes), and who will graduate as a certified Pharmacy Tech:

Does part-time employment as a Pharmacy Tech at the local hospital, during undergraduate university time, reflect positively and/or "count" as shadowing hours, for the med-school application? Note that many hospitals in the area (Texas) require or "strongly encourage" a CMA or some sort of official certification to be allowed into patient rooms and to witness doctors giving care. I believe a new Texas law was recently passed regarding this.

Any feedback is appreciated, thank you

No? You're not doing anything with a doctor, how could it be shadowing? It would likely fit under Employment - Non-Clinical.

Shadowing should involve your witnessing a doctor's routine as they round and view patients. Being a hospital pharmacy tech is valuable and gives you access, but you should schedule time with doctors who will let you shadow them. If the law makes it easier for doctors to do this, great!

Don't forget to ask questions and record your hours and observations in a journal.

Here's an example
