We are going to be getting graduate interns in the next couple of months and I want to know if they are supposed to work under a pharmacist supervision until they are licensed. Will I be responsible for their errors if we are working the same shift.? How much can a graduate intern do?

Treat grad interns the same way you would a regular intern as in they do have to work under a licensed pharmacist. I would give them considerable leeway in terms of counseling, taking dr call ect, but I would not allow them to verify because all errors are still under the on-duty licensed pharmacist.

Thank you so much. that's all I wanted to know. didn't work as a grad intern so wasn't sure how it works.

As a student.... It would be nice at slow times to let them test verify it. Let them go through it and say it is good or bad.... you double check it. Nothing should leave under your license without you verifying it, but you can let them verify it first.

When we were slow, my supervising pharmacist would do this. It helps for when they finally get their license.

I am saving a position for a student. She had a rotation with us. Every day I had to make her go home otherwise she would keep working. She came through with everything I requested. I had her do alot of weird goofy projects. She embraced it. Every bit of it.

Im going to hire her as soon as she graduates this June. I will assign her all my pharmacy quality report duties policyand protocol revisions ....p&t prep....Med error reports adverse drug reaction reports etc... and once shes licensed she will transition into clinical hybrid staff. She proved her dedication.
