Hey everyone, new to posting on the boards. My first MCAT scores come back next week so I am on edge just like all the others that took it. Figured I would put this up now just to see what people have to say.

I am a Grad Student in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alabama, and will finish next May.

My Undergrad Mech Eng GPA and Grad Mech Eng GPA are both 4.0 on my transcripts, but AMCAS has my Total GPA as a 3.95 and my BCPM as a 3.97 (thanks a lot +/- grading scale).

I have close to 120 clinical hours, and that number is going up as the summer progresses. I have Air Force ROTC as my main extracurricular activity among Pi Tau Sigma (ME Honor Society) and American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

So I guess my main question is what MCAT score would you say I need to get to at least get me a couple interviews (resident of TN), and make me somewhat somewhat competitive for admission? I have seen the chart that gives the percentage of white males that get in with my GPA, so I have an idea of what it takes for matriculation.

Any other advice you could give me as to how I could beef up my application would be great! Thank you in advance for your time and I look forward to being on the boards with you all!

Left out the list of schools I am applying to

South Alabama
UAB
USHUS
Tennessee (Brother matriculates at UT this fall + in state)
East TN State (in state)
Vanderbilt
Arkansas
Temple
Tulane
Jefferson
Pitt
Penn State (I have strong ties to Pennsylvania through both my mother and father)
Baylor

I am also a recipient of a Pre-Health designation, which means the USAF will sponsor me through assuming I get in.

Any other info I can give just let me know!

4.0 engineer? Get a 35 so you don't have to worry. 👍

Easier said than done! If I didn't do well on the 6/16 test I am already signed up to take it again in early September

If you do 30+, I think you will get into an MD program.

But the more you worry about it now (and score 35+), the less you will worry later. 😀

Good luck :luck:

EDIT: do you have practice test scores?

No Tau Beta Pi? 😀

If you're a grad student, I assume that you have a decent amount of research experience under your belt, so you should be fine in that department. Do you have any non-clinical volunteering? What about shadowing?

Hah, yes I am in TBP as well, but I am an officer in the other two so they are slightly more important (I would think)

Most my non-clinical volunteering is either through ROTC or through Church, and a few programs that my University offers, but yes I do have some. And I do have shadowing experience as well. I shadowed Air Force Physicians/Flight Surgeons for just about 80 hours, observed a couple surgeries through an Orthopedic Clinic, and shadow doctors working at an OrthoStat clinic for the time being.
