How do schools look at multiple GRE scores?

I recently took the GRE and receieved a 520 verbal, 770 quant. My GPA is a 3.42 which is lower than the average addmission GPA, should I retake the GRE or are they sufficient?

it depends on the school...you'd have to either email admissions or look at the website...some average the scores, some take just the highest score. Your quantitative is great, you might want to try to get your verbal over 600 if possible, and your writing should be at least a 5.0, unless you are applying to schools that don't require it.

It depends on the school. Some look at your most recent, others at the best. GRE isn't a huge part of admissions, it's mostly getting you in the door for the interview. I think they said at MSU, all told GPA and GRE amount to about 10% of the admissions process. I think the average score of those admitted at MSU is typically around 1170. Average GPA was 3.54, so you're not far off. It's always helpful to get the scores up if you can, but if it's between riding out with a vet for experience and studying for the GRE....I would take the experience.

An important thing to consider though is that a high GRE/GPA is what will get you an interview. Most schools don't really look at the "whole" picture applicant until after you've been accepted for an interview, so before that the GPA/GRE really helps.

well think of it this way...my GRE score was over 100 pts higher than the average for UGA (and my GPA for that matter) and I got waitlisted...so it's the whole picture...I def say the GRE is fine, concentrate more on the GPA...but your experience and courseload says a lot more in my opinion...plenty of people get in with your stats, and plenty with much higher don't...I swear they just pick names out of hats anyway
