Thanks for reading this.

I have a short question 🙂 I am an aspiring M.D. ( have been since 1st grade)

This is my situation.

Took Mcats did well (36o), cGPA ~ 3.35 Im currently a Junior. Rhetorically EC's are "amazing" and LORS and PS is perfect. I just want to know one thing 🙂 , Should I apply to early admission to my state medical school, with my 3.35 OR Wait until I graduate with my 3.55-3.6 from college, and then apply.

Reason I ask is because I dont want a scar of rejection my junior year, or waste money if I definetly wont get in because of my GPA.

(Some background, eath in family sophomore year got 3.0 GPA) upward trend with Organic chem I + II and Physics I and II and BioChem, are 2 B+'s and 5 A's.

What do you think? 🙂 Wait until College graduation to apply to my state medical school, or go for it this August and apply with all my heart and hope for an interview?

ps. Front of application asks if any relatives have graduated from the med school and I will write my brother did, as an MD in 2006. Hope that helps toward anything, since it is on front page of application.

Thanks people 🙂

(have similar question in what are my chances, but here im asking if I should wait to apply or do it this summer):xf:

You have a shot at EDP. With that being said I would still recommend normal application.

Just wait. What's the rush?

Thank you jebel, but please specifiy what you mean by normal application? Do you mean don't apply EDP and wait until senior year to have my GPA higher? Do you say that because rejection from EDP can scar my chances later on ?

Most people apply their senior year, hence that being normal. I think it is just better to wait because your GPA is just a little low. So unless you have a need to get in a year early, you might as well try to boost your GPA before you apply. Applying is a pain, and you probably don't want to go through it any more times than necessary.

Thanks so much Chman, Its just that I have my heart set on this , And I know this medical school very well, I did work there its 10 minutes away from my home. Do you think rejection on EDP will hurt me when I apply next year? (Rhetorically If i dont get in this year)

Probably not...I know of some people that have gotten rejected once and then accepted. If you have your heart set on it you can try, but would the end result be any different than applying your senior year, assuming you get accepted?

Another thing to consider, is that most apply to multiple schools when they do, so you want you application to be the best that it can be.

True Chman, Your right, And no I guess it won't accept the relief of knowing "Im In". I plan to apply to Many schools at the end of my senior year if I dont get accepted EDP. And I am only applying to UMDNJ as my EDP because I dont think I can apply to any other just one school it said on umdnj's site.

Trust me, no one wants this more than me. I have been manager of a doctor's office for years, medical assistant for years, I have even volunteered at red cross servicing clothes renewal for their trucks for the poor.

I guess I should wait until next year, So let me ask you something . If I wait until next year my GPA will be 3.5 at graduation. Do I actually apply when I graduate or earlier? Because if I apply ( for example ) December of my Senior year my GPA will be at a 3.45. thats only .1 higher than where i am now.

I think most people apply around June or so, but don't quote me on that. In other words, you may end up not even needing to decide that because there will be a date to start applying.

Oh okay, Thank you. Do you think I should wait until next year then? When my CGPA is 3.55+? I might even have it 3.6 if i take summer classes this year.

What would you do? Would you do EDP anyway and take that long shot? or just wait until graduation, and as well as that I will have the Kum Laud title to add onto my transcript.

And sorry but one more question , I know my BCPM is above 3.1 ATM but I have no idea what it is. Should i take some math classes to increase it my senior year?

Well, if you don't mind filling out all the necessary paper work twice, then I guess you could go for it, just don't expect to get in.

Do you mean you science GPA is at 3.1? Because that is really on the low side. Don't take math classes unless you like them and are good at them. If that is you science GPA, I would recommend taking some more science classes and getting that up and applying next year.

Yeah ur totally right !, I might just wait.

Yeah my BCPM took a beating with my 2nd year, just only had two C+'s in anatomy + gen chem II.

the rest of my science grades + pre-requ's are B+ to A+'s.

Yeah Im very good with Math classes. I should focus on my BCPM a lot too, I didn't even know what that was until recently. I wonder how closely BCPM is looked at.. 🙁

EDIT::: BCPM currently 3.35 (Same as CGPA) Just calculated. And it will rise to 3.5 before I graduate. I have calculated professionally the classes I have taken from my College site, and the ones I am taking next year.

And If all is well I will graduate with a 3.5CGPA and 3.5-3.6 SGPA

🙂
