Can i get a count as to who is ACTUALLY going to the open house at GTOWN this Friday. I'm registered and all that janx, but I know some people who reigstered late are waitlisted hahaha sucks for them. Neway, I got an e-mail saying to dress casually and comfortably.... does that mean shorts and a t-shirt with sandals... jeans..... slacks..... polo..... dress shirt...... i'm one of the competative and of course want to make a good impression but I dont want to be the only shmuck there in a suit or the only one not in a suit. Also I think its gonna be 75 and rainy? Pretty wack....

All imput will be helpful!

Wow, I always thought guys had it easy when picking clothes. Dress shirt + slacks + a sport coat that you can always take off later. Good to know that guys worry about this stuff too. 🙂

i'm going and staying with a current SMPer and she told me 'more than jeans but less than a suit' and she went to last year's open house b4 she got in. she did say to wear comfortable shoes though if u don't wanna get blisters from all the walking around (tour, going to sit in on classes, etc)

i'm just wearing nice dress pants and a sweater or nice top.

Thanks for the info, do you guys know how big this thing is gonna be? I know its for all of the masters programs Gtown offers, but is it possible to speak with Dr. Myers and the people involved. Are people coming from all over (chaeymaey from TX) or just mostly people from the DC area?

i'm not coming, I was just offering advice on what to wear. Sorry for the confusion.

S'all good, that was my sly way of asking if you were coming 😛 Thanks for help though 😀

From a curent SMPer males perspective: basicly med students come to class in whatever they want to wear (because theyr'e in med school allready and dont need to impress anyone, except when they are in a shirt and tie if they will be going to a clinic in the afternoon) and SMP students on average dress slightly better (polos and jeans) so I would suggest if you want to impress someone that you wear a button down shirt and kakis (aka business casual.)

Thanks touchdown, thats exactly what I was looking for. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I could do, being on the competitive list.... Who to talk to, who to convince that Gtown is meant for me and that I could be a real asset to the SMP? Thanks for any advice.

If you happen to meet the staff, make positive eye contact and give 'em a firm handshake. Just be friendly and ask a few questions politely so that they'll know you're interested. Talk too much and people will find you annoying. When you leave, make sure you go up to the staff again and remind them of your name and then say goodbye. That's all. Don't try too hard. Enjoy the openhouse.

i'm been corresponding with dr myers for a while now and emailed both he and ms cabiness about setting up an appointment during the open house day but they said no need for official appointments, there's more than enough time for them to speak with everyone. and from a couple of current SMPers i've talked with, they all said they had enough opportunity at the last open house to talk with dr m (as he likes to sign his emails) and ms cabiness

i'm coming down from philly after work. hopefully, no traffic cuz its already a 2.5 hr drive

when you're looking at georgetown this weekend, be sure and let them know that WHOSE has apparently now replaced WHO'S.

LOL that was my first thought when I clicked on this thread. Ya beat me to it - well played.

*** regarding SMPers dressing up for class: HUH!? That's the worst thing I've ever heard. I have to be trying to impress these people in my everyday noninterview life? That's gonna be rough.

I'm volunteering at the Open House (I did the MS in Micro&Immuno program). I helped out last year as well. Most of the applicants came in nice clothes. I noticed that a few of the women looked professional - suit skirts or slacks with blazers, and the like. The guys weren't really wearing suits, perhaps khakis with a coat and tie. I think a couple of people were wearing jeans. Georgetown is relatively conservative, but there will be profs there in jeans, most likely. That doesn't mean that you should slack on your appearance, though 🙂 But you don't have to dress up to look like a total prep. There is more than enough of that on the undergrad campus.

Dr. Myers was there last year, and is slated to be there again, as well as the Chairs of other programs/departments. Everyone is super-nice and approachable, at least in my experience. Keep in mind that there will be other programs represented besides just the SMP, so you might get a lot of extra info if you are dead set on being a Physio.

Ask questions while you're there! I'd be happy to help out with whatever I can...just look for the redhead. 🙂

Guys just so you dont give your hopes up, the SMPers (and med students for that matter) dont have any classes tomorrow and we have a test on Monday so your'e not going to get an idea of what a normal day is because half of the students (myself included) will not even be on campus and will be off studying somehere else so I just want to say enjoy your day and Im sorry I wont be able to meet any of you (Im not a guy who can study in a library) enjoy your day!
