So I have been chugging along this summer, working, drinking beer, playing golf, and all of a sudden it is the second week of August. I just saw my desk calendar and it kind of jolted me: medical school is actually going to be starting soon--a lot of places have already started. My school doesn't start until late this month, but wow, that's not very far off anymore. I kind of feel like, "yikes, so we're actually doing this thing, huh?" This must be how bankrobbers feel right before they pull their ski masks down and go in.

Yea, orientation starts next Monday for me. The past couple of days I've felt like "Hmm, this is actually happening...Uh, helppp!" after spending all summer vacationing and goofing off. I'm hoping the sense of newness and anxiousness go away sooner rather than later! 😳

well good luck luck to all the medical school beginners........its always a big time to enter your med school.
enjoy.......but as well as keep a pace with your studies thats necessary.........go have big treats.........:clap::clap:

but keep in mind one thing its hard so keep pace with your studies since beginning!

You'll be fine.

I'm in day 3 of the real stuff. It's intense, but do-able.

Just don't let anyone scare you in orientation. They'll warn you of overwork, going crazy, becoming disconnected, etc... but realize they're all there to help you, and now you have the added benefit of having DOCTORS for professors.

Avoid the casino when you get the loan check.

Have fun during orientation... it'll be that "one time" you have to bond with your classmates before sharing one of the biggest workloads you'll ever have to deal with.

Shameless plug for one of my colleagues but go the the SDN blogs and read the latest entries of Doctajay who is going through orientation now. You will see that there is nothing to be feared but a great adventure about to unfold. It's going to be fun and exciting. His blog is here: Doctajay's Blog.

If I were you, I would be enjoying the rest of the summer and partying like a fool because you don't have that much time left and you want to get the most out of it. Catch up on your telly shows or invest in TIVO right now too. 😉

This is also a good time to raise a glass to all those folks who wish they were in your shoes but didn't make it in this year. Send some good vibes in their direction.

Great point--there but for the grace of a few MCAT questions go I. If anyone reapplying is reading this, keep the faith, dust yourself off, and go get it!

You should be relaxing up until school starts, aside from making sure you have all the stuff you need. My doctor told me before going into med school that "you will get nervous and scared, but that is to be expected." If I hadn't remembered that when I saw my 1st year schedule I may have dropped out. I was thinking, "what the hell did I get myself into!? I don't belong here!"

But I dug in and did very well my first year. So will you.

Exactly what goes through my mind every day now - and I haven't even started orientation!! :scared:

I am so excited to be starting. I am a reapp, and it's tough watching all your friends start before you. I really cannot wait, it's nervewracking, especially now that I have a bunch of boxes around my apartment waiting to be loaded into my car and taken to thier new home on Saturday, but I can't wait. It means I'll never have to work in the public school system again!

100% of med students feel this during the first several months. Guaranteed. All of them. Even the brightest.

^^

The answer to "Am I the only one feeling like this?" is usually a resounding "Hell no."

And one way to become popular with your classmates is to confess this feeling and ask if they're feeling the same. Most people will be relieved to hear they're not the only ones.

Yeah.... I feel the same way. I'm like OH MY Goodness.... Medical School is starting in a few weeks. I'm VERY Happy but a bit nervous about facing the unknown! All I can say is WOW.. Thank you GOD for your BLESSINGS!!!! 🙂

the difference, of course, is that bank robbers might get caught, end up in jail, and get bent over on a daily basis...with medical school, there's no might... :meanie:

😀 Makes me wish I was into such things. I'd never doubt med school then!
