I just received the GW hold letter. Some other people here have too and they added themselves to the rejection list, is it really that bad? I have to admit they opened up the hold letter the same way as a rejection letter and then said I would be looked at in Feb. Anyone know what the chances are of getting an interview there actually are now if you took the AUG MCAT (31) and are on hold? Has anyone been flat rejected by pre-interview? or do they not mail those out until springtime and this hold is really just an equivalent?

Anyone know anything?

I was wondering that too. Advice anyone?

I am a fellow August MCAT taker (33) and got an interview. I had my GW secondary completed in early November, got an interview invitation about a week later, and had the actual interview in mid-December.

As for what it means to be on hold for an interview, I'm not quite sure. I'll take a stab at it and assume that they'll put you on an interview wait-list until they fill their class. If they haven't done so by a certain time you might get an interview. As I said, though, this is merely one person's assumption.

It might be worth a phone call to GW to get the low-down from an admissions representative if you haven't done so already. Also, not to scare you off but rumor mill has it that GW prefers their own graduates (probably like many other schools). Maybe that's why I got an interview? Who knows!?!? I think it's such an arbitrary process at times.

Good luck!

Send them a well-written letter telling them how much you love them. It does not need to be a letter of intent just reiterate you interest. I got the same letter but they are not that high on my list... Good luck!

I am going to call the admissions office and see if this is basically a letter they send to everyone who is not offered an interview or it is really still a chance of one. It just seems like GW has not even rejected anyone yet pre-interview?

I got the same hold letter. Did anyone call admissions and find out any more information? I am trying not to get too discouraged, although no interview by now can't be good, because I have talked to a few people who were in our position and suddenly got interviews in feb and march and our now getting ready or have already finished med school. I am kind of assuming this is the same type of hold as I got from albany med, basically they have offered enough spots to fill the class but if they don't accept they will have to go back into the pile and look at our applications again--my optimism forces me to believe that we are close to an acceptance. If nothing else, I am doing better than last year when I got nothing but "you suck" letters.

A lot of times "hold" means that you are good but they want to gauge interest. If you are put on hold and they never hear from you, then I doubt you'll be interviewed. But if you are put on hold and send them Q3 week updates on papers/grades/etc, that shows interest and they may interview you .

I interviewed back in October and got placed on the 'Alternate List'.

Is this what you guys mean when you say HOLD

I got a letter putting my application on hold with no interview. Basically the letter said that I was put in a category of applications that would be reviewed again in february. Not a rejection, not an interview and not an acceptance.

I called GW today and the guy said that a hold means that you will be rereviewed in Feb. to see if they want to interview you or reject you. He didn't say anything about the class being filled first or anything but something tells me that a hold is not so great. Good Luck everyone.

Anyone come off of the GW Hold recently?

I was put on hold in september and subsequently rejected. There are some that got interviews off the hold though, so it's not the end.

Thanks. I've been on hold since November and I'm getting really nervous.

I was on hold for quite a while then got a March 13 interview a couple weeks ago. I got it pretty quickly after I contacted the admissions office asking how my status would change. Definately show your interest, GW likes that.

I've been on Hold since early October and haven't heard anything yet. Crossing my fingers, however.
