Hello fellow decision makers!

I’ve been checking this forum for months and decision-time has finally de-lurked me. I’m entering an MPH program in epi and I’ve narrowed down my decision to GW vs. Pitt. Each has their own pros and cons but I was wondering if anyone here had any additional info or opinions.

Pitt: In-state=MUCH cheaper tuition and cost of living. Higher ranked program but very far away.

GW=More expensive & lower rank, but closer.

I’ve had similar experiences as other posts I’ve seen here - after my acceptance I haven’t heard much from Pitt while GW has sent me tons of information and helpful directions.

I was wondering if anyone knew anything about job/internship prospects from each school. While Pitt has a higher ranked program, I am wondering if GW offers better and more abundant opportunities because of its location in D.C.? This might make it worth the incredible cost? I visited each and love both cities.

Any and all advice is very much appreciated!

Thanks and congrats to you all! 🙂

Hi, I`m at Pitt and I think it is great school, highly ranked program and connected to many resources through UPMC. They cover the CPH exam fee for all students. Good luck!

Thanks so much for responding so quickly!

I recently spoke with someone who is an MPH epi GW grad - and she said basically the same thing. She said GW makes sense for those hoping to go into health policy or global health (since most programs are run out of USAID in DC). Otherwise, Pitt has such a great reputation and offers a lot of opportunities especially for those looking at other tracks (applied epi, field epi, clinical trials, etc).. Also, that a degree from Pitt doesn't necessarily rule out a future or job in DC. Pitt might make more sense for my interests and UPMC has an incredible reputation. I'm little nervous because it's such a big school but also very excited!

Thanks again for your help!
