AP, ABC7) - A George Washington University medical school professor has resigned after students complained that she never taught a required class and assigned all her students an "A" grade.
Venetia Orcutt resigned last month as assistant professor in George Washington's department of physician assistant studies. She also served as chair of the department.
The university says in a statement that it's investigating the allegations that led to Orcutt's resignation, effective Oct 31. University officials say they are investigating. A call to Orcutt's home was not returned.
At least three students wrote letters to GW's provost this fall complaining that Orcutt did not teach two out of three semesters of a course on evidence-based medicine during the 2009-2010 school year. In the letters, obtained by The Associated Press, the students claim they were never told why the classes weren't taught and that they were all given "A" grades.
Almost all physician assistant students refused to comment to a reporter Tuesday, saying they'd been told by the department not to talk to media.

Yikes, that's horrendous. Sounds like a dysfunctional program. If I never showed up for my classes I would have had 1) several concerned emails and phone calls from students and peers and 2) certainly wouldn't have been paid for long...also sad that this was the CHAIR of the PA Dept setting a very bad example. Eek! Good for those honest students though who recognize their education was being shortchanged.

I wonder if this would deter anyone from actually matriculating

I would hope not, since it's a PA professor whose only connection with the med school is her title.

And man, I would have killed to have a prof like that at any point in my life...

Its an evidence based medicine class at a PA school.

So they miss out on sitting for an hour a day in what can be described as a glorified journal club and all got A's.

Surprising that the school didn't know the prof wasn't teaching.
