I know this is by far no comparison but I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Accepted to both GWU and UF with no funding from GWU but potential to get some, and guaranteed full yr of funding for UF from 2008-2009.
I know the pros and cons of attending each school...but I would really appreciate some feedback as far as which would you choose in this situation!

Hello...Congrats on gettign into both schools! 🙂

what program are you going into? I will be starting my master's in health administration (MHA) this fall at Indiana University....I too accepted into George Washington University (GWU)....I really wanted to go to GWU but I didn't go b/c it was too expensive (high cost of living, high tuition, and no scholarship)

UF and GWU are both good schools......are you going to start fall 2008? if so, just weigh your options....Check with GWU to see if they will give you funding and then base your decisions between the 2 schools on what's best for you

First of all, congratulations!

I also had considered GWU, but the tuition was too high for me. Also, I've lived in DC before and it is definitely an expensive place to live. I have friends who lived in Gainesville for law school and they said that the expenses of living there were really manageable and student-friendly.

If I was in your position I would probably go to UF. You will have WAY less debt, so you will be free to pursue jobs and interests that you might not have if you had mountains of debt. UF is a respected school, and I'm guessing that a huge state university would have lots of opportunities to do research, etc. And, maybe it's just me, but it's always impressive when someone has full-funding! I think it might look good to have that on your resume. Also, do you plan on doing a PhD or another advanced degree after this? If yes, then it might be a good idea to save the massive loans for later on, and spend less on your Masters.

Good luck!! :luck:

What program? MPH? UF is still seeking accreditation as far as I know. I just graduated there this spring from undergrad, and while the university is FABULOUS in general, I would not consider going there for an MPH (or an MHA) for that matter for a few more years until it stabilizes and develops. There was a great dean but he left this year, so the program could really sink or swim. Plus, D.C. is probably four-hundred billion times cooler of a town than Gainesville. However, nothing beats Gator sports. In the end, the education will be better at GW, and although a UF MPH could be free... is it worth your time not learning as much? Esp. if the accreditation takes a long time and you have trouble finding work. Anyway, my 2 cents. -Erica
