Hi there

So I'm current taking a class in the education department, and my professor is actually a clinical psychologist who sees patients and stuff. I'm getting the chance to do a study with him on cognitive development, and I really like him as a professor. His teaching appointment is in the Education department, and what he teaches us is mostly psychology. Despite his job title, would this professor still count as non-science? I have many science recs, not too many non-science.

Also, I did a great summer research program a few months ago. I built a wonderful relationship with my post-doc mentor. We worked together well, and he has an excellent sense of who I am and my strengths/weaknesses, And he's even asked me to return for next summer. A recommendation from him would no doubt be glowing.
However, I just started work in a lab at school, presumably towards my thesis. While I like my PI/thesis advisor, he's the head of the department and is tremendously busy as such. He doesn't know me as well, or constantly see my work. My questions are
1.) Is it bad to have my post-doc write a medical school LOR instead of my thesis advisor? Would it look suspect?
2.) Can my post-doc even write me an LOR even though he's not a professor or anything?

Thanks!

Psych is usually considered non-science (more of a humanities) so the LOR should be fine as the non-sci

You can have whoever you want write your a letter- make sure you have the required letters (ie from actual science professors) then use the post-doc as an additional letter if the school says they accept up to 5 or whatnot. Good luck with the application process.
