Can anyone comment on the working environment at hackensack? the last time I saw a post about them was when the anesthesia dept was being acquired by an AMC. Perhaps shed some light 2 years post acquisition?

All I've heard is that it's like a factory. Round the clock OR. High infection rates, apparently from old OR design.

Interviewed there a few years back. The workload was bone crushing but the pay was very good. I was told "anesthesia runs the OR", whatever that actually means I couldn't figure out. I chose an extra 20 hours per week of free time vs. the extra $100k/yr I would have made there.

ORs work pretty much around the clock still. not too difficult to find yourself working more hours than the residents, assuming you're full time - i'd say it's on the 'near-brutal' end of the spectrum, imho. good mix of cases overall. pay is very good, but caps after 3 years between 4-500k. part time opportunities actually pay pretty well, and hours are reasonable. separate cardiothoracic group. opening a new surgicenter next year. new cardiac/vascular OR with lots of flouro, and high-tech gadgetry - not so much for anesthesia though. robust, very busy OB service. can PM you more details if interested.
