I know this sounds incredibly trivial, but I was wondering if one's hairstyle mattered much in terms of creating first impressions at interviews? The reason I ask is because I cut my hair REALLY short (almost bald) during the summer, and right now it's in that awkward "koosh-ball" stage between that and normal-length hair. My girlfriend and mother both think I should keep growing it out, as they believe it makes me look more professional and conservative, but I feel that it's making me appear childish and ridiculous. Hence, my ever-growing urge to trim it back down (which they feel will create a negative "skinhead" impression at interviews).

That being said, if you find this hilarious, just move on, constructive comments only please.

I KNOW that you are Korean. Grow your hair like 'Bi' (Rain)!
Cutting it too short will make you look like a gangbanger, which is the reason why adcoms don't like bald or really short-haired applicants.

I buzz my head every few weeks. FOr my interview, I let it grow a for maybe two months. Then went to a salon and had it cleaned up around my ears and neck. Then just gelled the heck out of it on interview day so it would lay down nicely. Now I buzz it again.

I think it looked pretty professional. Good luck to you.

You know, I really know what you're going through. For the last 2 years I've buzzed my hair (#2 on the sides, fade into #3 on the top for a little fuzz), and now I'm growing it out a little it. It's now about an inch and a half on the top and shorter on the sides. It does look a little koosh ball/afro puffy sometimes, and I could swear to god that it makes my head look big, but people say I don't look like "skeletor" or an "army ranger" now. I think that it does make an impression, too. I can get away with having hair the length it is now, but when it's buzzed people just second guess me, which isn't good for interviews. So, my short haired friend, do what you like, but for some reason people think you're either going bald or a little weird if you have buzzed hair. I know all about it.

just mousse the crap out of it.. straight up.
