Very creative dental practice! Have you all heard of any other innovative ideas which some practices have attempted?

Ohio Dentist Wants To Buy Halloween Candy From Kids

MANSFIELD, Ohio— It's hard to imagine that there will be eager children lined up around the block to take part in this anti-cavity dental deal next week.

An Ohio dentist is offering to buy kids' trick-or-treating booty this Halloween. He's even throwing in a toothbrush to sweeten the deal, so maybe it will be like taking candy from a baby.

The Mansfield News Journal reports (http://bit.ly/qjkD3Z ) that dentist Craig Callen and his associates are offering kids $1 per pound of candy they bring in, with a 5-pound limit per child. The dentists are also holding a drawing for two children's bikes.

"Kids can have the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well.," Callen told the paper.

Callen says brushing teeth and visiting a dentist are good preventive measures, but doing away with excess sweets would give teeth a healthy boost.

Excess candy can lead to hyperactivity and weight gain and can be especially damaging to children's braces, according to the dentist.

The candy buyback programs are an annual event across the country and in New Hampshire, there's a dental practice that will purchase confections from children and ship the goodies to troops overseas.

Yes, actually. The dentist I grew up with has been doing this for years. He puts out ads for it and donates all the candy. Pretty sweet if you ask me (woohoo best pun ever!!).

this has been done before. they also have it where the candy is meant for troops.

I remember my orthodontist did this when I was a child. I weighed my huge bag of candy to be around 2 pounds and decided it's worth way more than $2 😀

Cool! My neighbor is a dentist and he would give out king-sized candy bars to every kid on Halloween :scared:. Fail..

Not a fail at all. More like good publicity and job security

Sounds like an episode out of South Park.

Collect candy.

Profit.

Seriously, if you think about it, the candy is worth much more than one dollar a pound so this dentist is Warren Buffet of dentistry.

This sounds like a big candy scam. Buy candy at a fraction of its true cost and resell it for a profit or just consume it. And as a bonus acquire new patients as they enter your dental office for the candy buyback.
