Hi, I was wondering how much manual dexterity is needed in pathology. I have some hand tremors that usually aren't that bad but can be episodic. I know you have to do dissections and some frozen sections/slide preparation. Is it very precise work? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply 🙂

You also have to do FNAs. I would imagine you should be fine, depending on how bad it is. But agreed, the best "test" would be to see if you can do the things. If you can get through third year of med school I would say you should have no problem though.

The question to ask is: do you know when they're about to come? If yes, then you can just pull your hands from the task and wait for them to pass, but if no, then I would think that'd be a bigger problem.

If path is your dream---go for it! If you arre going to path because you think it is a good place for someone with a tremor -- forget it! You gotta be happy man.
