Do any of you have advice regarding handheld devices for med school (palmone, sony-clie, or pocket pc's)? Also, what about software that is very helpful to use while studying (dictionaries, drug references, clinical consults, lab/diagnostic references)?

Any advice would be very appreciated! Thanks

If you are strictly using your PDA for medical programs, contacts, word documents, scheduling, etc. get a Palm. There is no comparison. If you have the money, get the Tungsten T3. It's the gold standard. If not, a Palm Tungsten E or Zire will suffice.

If you must have Wifi, then PocketPC would be the better choice.

But remember, there are loads of free medical programs available for Palm that are not free for PocketPC users.

I have the sony clie and I love it!!!!

Thanks everyone so far for your advice, etc!

Direwolf,

What are some websites containing free medical software for palm handhelds? I've looked at the Tungsten E and T3. I'm interested in theTungsten E because it can do a majority of the things the T3 does - plus it's $200 less.

Thanks again everyone!

Sony discontinued their Clie's. So you might find good deals on those, which I hear are very good. I have a Toshiba Pocket PC from the school, which I like, and just got a Palm Tungsten T3 for work, and I must say, the T3 is a beautiful machine 🙂

Do any of you have comments about effective handheld software that can be used while studying, and going to medical school, specifically for the first two years?

-Thanks a bunch-

Wouldnt worry about it until wards. It can help, but really is just overload, in my opinion.

four.zero, stedman's medical dictionary 27th edition, archimedes, etc

go to (pdaMD, epocrates, medpda, palmgear, guineasoft) .com and look around for reference material and what not. there's a lot of good free stuff out there if you go with a palmOS machine. just look around and you'll find stuff, don't forget to download some games too
