Hi everyone, Nova Southeastern University's OMFS program (@broward_omfs on Instagram) would like to invite all dental students interested in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery to spend a week long externship at our program. We are a very busy current 4-year program, transitioning to 6-year in the next couple years. We actively cover call 365 days a year, 24/7 at two busy level 1 trauma centers both Broward Health Medical Center and Memorial Regional Hospital in South Florida, also coverage at a small local hospital- Memorial South; covering all of Broward County for facial trauma. We are a broad scope, cowboy residency program.
As an extern you will have the ability to:
-Take call and do ER procedures including laceration closure, closed reduction of certain fractures maxillomandibular fixation, incision and drainage of infections, etc
-Scrub into OR cases
-Rotate through 2 out patient clinics where you will see a very diverse group of patients and diverse range of maxillofacial cases including trauma, benign and malignant pathology, TMJ, orthognathics, dentoalveolar, etc. You will assist and participate in the workup/treatment of these cases
-Learn about medical management
-Participate in patient rounds
Your externship here won't be a passive one of shadowing and following residents around, you will be involved! Our residency makes an effort to welcome all dental students considering OMFS as a future career. Residents will cover your in-house hospital meals, show you around and take you under our belt.
Accommodations: Visiting students have the opportunity to stay in our resident call room or find local accommodations of their choice - we recommend you find something close to Broward Health Medical Center should you decide to stay local.
