At my school there is a tradition of naming the incoming medical class after an animal. The Class of 2005 are the Candirus (a pee-loving parasitic Amazonian fish).
The story goes that it all started with a prof and a class that was being particularly stupid one day - "YAR ALL A BUNCHA TURKEYS!!"

I heard the story about that fish when I was about 12 and resolved to never visit the Amazon. That, and the anacondas, the piranhas, the electric eels, the poisonous spiders, deadly frogs, and the gigantic beetles.
Oh, but I'm sure it's quite lovely and beautiful. 🙄
