In number 160, Destroyer Bio it says that the freq.for an auto. rec. allele is 1/2500. Which would be p^2=.0004...and then the square root is taken.

However, if you compare this question to #12 or #51, the values those problems give for allele freq and not squared, they are just p or q and then plugged into the equations.

So basically, when a value is given for recessive or dominant allele (q or p) how do you know if it is P^2 or just P?

Let's say

p = frequency of dominant allele (A)
q = frequency of the recessive allele (a)

P^2 would then = the frequency of the dominant genotype (AA)
q^2 would then = the frquency of the recessive genotype (aa)
2pq would then = the frequency of the heretozygous genotype (Aa)

Just t be careful when looking at phenotype type questions, because the hetero genotype and dominant genotype may express in the same fashion, skewing the phenotypic numeric outcome in an additive case. Other combinations also may exist though.

PS: Stop studying. Your exam is tomorrow. Get some good food, chill with your friends, and get a good nights sleep.

Thanks, I get it now.

I know I know... just last minute cramming. I can't help it!! I'll put down the books now... 😀
