what about this program? the reputation, resident/fellow career...

facts from their web: the training there seems to be extremely tense. 40k surgpath specimen. about 20 months of surgpath rotation. has surgpath x 4, heme x 1, cyto x 1 fellowship positions.....

i know nothing about the program, but having just interviewed i can say the average is about 12-14 months of surg path, with the high being 16. 20 would be 5 months each year - that probably leaves little time for electives. i'm just guessing here, but i would wonder if the hospital doesn't have much PA help and therefore the residents are needed to do most/all of the grossing, even the biopsies. i'd try and look into this if you're interested in the program.

No there is more than 2 months, there are PA's there, you only gross smalls and biopsies when you on call for saturday. Im not exactly sure about the exact number of months on surg path but the program is balanced just like most places and you get to rotate thru all aspects of path (AP and CP) to my knowledge no one has ever been chained to a grossing station yet.
