Any ideas on either one or which one is better? I also like Yale and Pitt but have read enough about Pitt. Are the harvard and Yale names big enough to wipe out northwestern or is the training really worth it? Any quick insight would be truly appreciated. Thanks!

Both excellent programs. If you're leaning CL - I'd recommend Northwestern, CAP - then I'd favor Cambridge. Regardless, you'll get great training at either.

Is Chicago vs. Boston even debatable? 😛

What about the Harvard or Yale name vs. Northwestern? I like Boston more but I would be willing to move to Chicago without a problem. And by CAP, do you mean child? or something else? I am not really interested in CL, I am interested in private practice in the future. Thanks again!

Without naming the programs I've been debating in my ROL, I definitely considered the "name" factor and then decided against it. I've heard for our field (psychiatry), unless youre planning on trying to get a prestigious academic position, name doesn't matter all that much. My take is that in psychiatry, you don't close as many doors by not going to a "big" name institution as you would in other medical fields where getting fellowships are pretty competitive. That said, in considering my ROL, I decided that the general program "fit" and location were more important factors to me than the name recognition. I think if youre interested in private practice you might want to consider the population youre interested in working with and what kind of population you'd be exposed to at each program.

Ditto on what dca said. If you're going into private practice, I don't think you really need to go to a big name place. I would just go with whichever program you liked the most and where you think you can get the best training. I LOVED Cambridge (head over heels), and would rank it first whether or not it was a big name, but that's just me. It's definitely a very personal choice.
