I was wondering if the only way to pay for the HES is by private loans or can we use Stafford or any other Federal loans?

Thank you

I am currently in the Postbac program at Harvard. (If you couldn't guess from my name). As long as you are accepted into the program as a diploma candidate you can use federal loans just as you would in any other program. In my case, I had already had General Chemistry as an undergrad and I couldn't receive the federal loans.

The one bad thing about payment here is that all classes must be paid for in full when you register. So if you are thinking about a private loan, you will usually have to pay up front and then theoretically "reimburse" yourself with your private loan.

All in all the HES program is outstanding and very challenging. It is taught by very impressive professors.

Best of luck!

I got a corporate sponsor for this semester . . . VISA - maybe you've heard of them? 🙂 Actually, I do like getting the miles . . . just not paying the bill. 🙁 There are a lot worse ways to spend 3 grand.

Do we pay the undergrad price for the course or the expensive graduate price?

I really would love to go there becasue it would really help out but DAANNNGG...me and VISA are not friends!

You pay the $800-ish per course, per semester, which isn't too shabby.

I shoved it on the credit card also.

Yeah like they said, you pay the undergrad price. I think $850/class? Not bad, best education you can get for the money!

Sorry to bring back such an old thread, but I thought it would be more useful for future readers that find this page on Google than to open a new one to ask a related questions... Well, I'm going to start classes this fall, but I'm still confused about the timing for the private loan application. Do I need to be enrolled first to apply for a private loan (in this case, pay first with credit card then get reinbursed), or is it possible to apply for the loan before registration starts? Has anyone had any experience with private lenders?

I just asked them at an open house. They recommend seeking loans a month before registration of classes. They said private loan processing should take 2 weeks or so.
