Hey everyone,

I am making the decision between Harvard and some other schools. What I am wondering is a bit about the student life and how competitive it is there. On interview day, like many others, I got the impression that the staff was cold and the students were not too enthusiastic. I am coming from an undergrad that was a huge melting pot for extremely competitive premeds and am just wondering if any HMS medical student could give me a little insight on this.

thanks

I don't go to HMS, but a friend of mine there advised me to think long and hard about going there when I interviewed. I got the same impression from the staff and students - cold and affected. My friend described it as "a shark tank filled with the most entitled group of neurotic #$*&$&# you could ever imagine." He was HST, however.

Still, it is Harvard.

True, thanks for the response. I know its a great school, but I just want to make sure I will somewhat enjoy my 4 years there considering i will be moving away from my SO and my family

I think there is some truth to this but I also think the environment there isn't that bad given the pass fail environment. My brother is a resident there and he says that there certainly is some level of entitlement in the students he has rotating through but that gets beat out of them to some degree by the end of 3rd year anyways haha

I think you should definitely come to second look and find out directly from the student's perspective. It is probably pointless asking on the pre-allopathic forum because the advice you'll hear is hearsay from students who have never attended HMS or even had the chance to.

Congratulations and good luck!

My sister attends there (HST) and IMO it seems like HST is a bit more strenouos than the NP program.. That said, it seems most of the class are really happy there, IMO its just the kind of person you are, if HMS offered an acceptance, I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy it. IMO I don't think the atmosphere is too much different from any other school

i agree. keep in mind that some people are looking to jump all over hms students - they are expected to be perfect.

also, every class is a little different...it would be interesting for you to see what the vibe is like at second look.
