I was just wondering. I had a program director go out of his way to tell me how much he appreciated me coming to the interview, but then again he was just a really great guy.
Has a program "guaranteed" you a spot prior to the match?

Yes, for both the internship and the residency.
In fact, several programs did and I later found out that they were not yanking my chain either.

got a good call this time last year; and, fortunately, they held their word. if you get the call, make sure you have them define "ranked to match."

That's exciting and I'm happy for you!
Just so that you know, the chair is actually allowed to tell you exactly where he ranked you so he's incorrect in saying that he can't. The rule is that you cannot ask him where you are ranked but he can tell you voluntarily and it's well within the rules.
hrmmmm. well that makes me a little less excited. He also said I didn't have to tell him where I'm going to rank them so I didn't on the phone, but maybe I should have? I'm going to send them a letter saying I'm ranking them #1 regardless..

Sounds like a good plan to let them know since that's what you want too (email is another option too).
