Has anyone ever made a comprehensive FA Pharm List?

Every time i go through First Aid 2009 I think about how nice it would be if there was a comprehensive, organized source for each drug in FA. I find that sometimes the book is a little disorganized in where it puts particular drugs.

I am wondering if anyone has ever made a sort of comprehensive Word document with each piece of info on drugs from FA but in a more organized manner. I have heard there are probably less than 200-300 drugs in the entire FA so I imagine someone probably has done this. It would be a fantastic way to study the highest yield information that FA gives, but in a much more organized format that can be reviewed rapidly.

Thanks so much in advance!

I made note cards. I'd recommend it.

Start now while watching TV and you should be done in no time. I did it before I started studying for the boards. It was a godsend when I got down to studying and had everything prepared.

You know FA should come out with some pharm flashcards which correspond directly to the text.

I still prefer sheets of paper to notecards though. I'm sure someone out there has made a Word document... anyone?🙄

I hear boardwiz flash cards follow FA pretty close.

How did you organize your note cards?? Did you just take the info directly out of FA??

One of my friends is putting all the drugs into one powerpoint file and putting it on his smartphone so whenever he has downtime, like waiting in line, he can flip through them whenever he wants. Pretty nifty imo.

Now that's the innovation I was looking for. Any chance you can get him to hook us up with the file once he's done?👍

For a similar effect, I got the "mentalcase" app for ipod touch, and it is able to download flashcard packs from flashcardexchange.com. If you don't have an ipod/iphone, you can still check the flashcards out on that site...they are user-created, alot of which specifically use FA as their info source.

Wow that's awesome!!! I didn't know that... I'll go and look for the mentalcase app... Thank you!!

I've wanted to get an Touch for a while now, can it speed up the audio files? Right now I listen to them between 1.7 and 2X using quicktime.

hmm...after searching around all I can find is that you can convert it to and audiobook to change the playback speed. Anyone know of another program or way of doing this?

no prob...you might have to search for "flashcard exchange" in the app store, since the full name of the app is "flashcard exchange presents: mentalcase". Also, the free version doesn't let you download flashcard sets, so I'd suggest just shelling out the $5 for the full app. It beats buying $35 flashcard sets for every discipline. I mean you can freaking find a Goljan Rapid Review images set, so well worth your money.

Thats a good question...I havent started listening to GA hardcore yet, so didn't look into it. Let me know if you figure it out.

Yes, thank you I found it... Just one question, when you download the flash card files you'd like to use, do they get downloaded onto your ipod or do they stay on flashcardexchange.com? What I'm trying to ask you is, do you need internet access to use the flash cards you've downloaded?

Thanks again... you're right, well worth the money!!

It gets downloaded onto your ipod, so it's available anywhere...which is why I opted for the app. If I had an iphone, I'd probably just access the site directly since it works nicely on mobile safari.

Then it's perfect!!! Thanks!!!

I think that's the same as the list at the end of the Katzung and Trevor review book. Nice to have a pdf. I counted 193 drugs on it; I'm not sure how many are in FA though. Our pharm course director, who has been on the Step I pharm committee for a number of years, told us we would learn about 600 drugs during M2 and that there were a little over 1,000 in the Step I database (but some of these are similar members of the same class like doxy/tetracycline).

So would Lippincott's Pharm be a better book to use since it includes more drugs?

No. That 13 page summary is intended as a very brief resource for last minute cramming. I haven't counted, but I'm quite sure that the text of the Katzung review book contains for more than 200 drugs, as do Lippincott and FA. I haven't taken Step I yet, but the usual advice seems to be that FA is sufficient for pharm or nearly so, and that other resources are to be used only as a supplement. I certainly would not be able to read either the Katzung or Lippincott books in the five days I have scheduled for pharm review.

I've heard the same. I actually like pharm so I want to get the questions right on the test.

Anyone have a recommendation to note cards (made by a company)
that I can get to supplement FA? Like an hour here and there
during the study period?

I've heard good things about PharmCards but it's pretty dense. BRS cards are good too.

i got the lange cards for pharm/path/micro on my iphone and they're quite good.

A guy in my class made these spreadsheets; they are relatively comprehensive lists of all biochem, drugs, and ID on Step 1. He used a series of different sources...

Step 1 biochem: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pYXxsYdXwPYL6cIVWuCSCMg

Step 1 Drugs: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pYXxsYdXwPYKcGuozHmH7bw

Step 1 ID: http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=r5SLp2Y8j-18wkr2JwSElRA

They were pretty helpful. Enjoy!!

Intimidating lists but thanks for posting them.

When I click on the spreadsheets, it says:

"We're sorry.
This spreadsheet is not published."

Any ideas?

Someone in a class above me made this.
I believe it was from UNTHSC TCOM c/o 2009 or 2010

big spreadsheet with lots of drugs.

It was handed down to me at no cost, so im pretty sure they wont mind it being passed around to other med students. I take no responsibility as to the accuracy of this document as i never used it.

Enjoy.

I seem to have two different named files but they look the same to me upon first glance, but ill include both in case they are in fact different.

Also attaching some word document i found fling around the internet with some useful stuff on it. scroll through it see if it helps any of you guys out.

anyone know how to attach files? i keep trying to do it but i just cant seem to get them to post.

Oh come on people, nothing but dead links?! Surely someone has these docs all archived somewhere, please REPOST them! Thanks in advance. 🙂

Not sure how accurate it is, but this looks like a pretty comprehensive pharm source made from First Aid (2006...?)

http://www.flashcardexchange.com/flashcards/view/347594

I haven't gone through these at all but it looks like there are 1200+ cards (drugs, mechanisms, pharmacokinetics, etc are all in there).

If anyone has seen this before and can comment on their usefulness, that would be great 🙂
