They're supposed to send out their final decision letters this week or next, and since the mail service is crappy where I live, I was wondering if anybody else has gotten their letters.

Are you talking pre- or post-interview? If pre-interview, I believe they've sent out all the rejection letters. I got mine a couple weeks back.

I hear* decisions are being made this week. We should be getting letters sometime in the next few weeks. 🙄 🙄 🙄

man... i swear, i hear the same ole things... =(

I just got my letter from USC, and I was placed on the alternate list 🙁

Does anybody know if EVERYBODY who didn't get in gets placed on the alternate list, or do people actually get rejected? Also, has anybody gotten an acceptance letter recently?

WaitingImpatiently... i feel ur pain.

they must have sent my decision to my permanant home... My mom usually calls me when there's good news. She hasn't called yet.. I'm afraid to call home.. heh..

If you live further away, perhaps your letter will come tomorrow.

Are all decisions at this point either rejections or alternate list? Have they already filled their class? I assume so cause I heard they had 206 people invited to their 2nd look weekend. Anybody find out covert information?

But I was told that they HAVE filled their class (obviously). One thing that I didn't until today is that people have been rejected-- only about 100 have been waitlisted. If only I knew how many of that 100 will eventually get in...

like you said waitingimpatiently, the waitlist isn't ranked. I remember from my interview that USC will try to find someone to match the 'profile' of whoever drops their spot in the USC class list.

When I interviewed, I made it pretty clear that I planned on going to a specific field (psychiatry). My "vision" statement reflected that as well. Does that mean that another potential shrink has to drop in order for me to get in?

Also, it's got to bother you a little that there's someone that fits your profile, but only better, and he/she is currently holding your spot!

i think it's more general a profile. Like more in terms of age, gender, race, major, and maybe life experiences.

bump^^ to see if anyone has got a response

this is the last i heard:

USC Medical School students were receiving their first anatomy class with a
real dead human body. They were all gathered around the surgery table with the body covered with a white sheet. The professor started the class by telling them "In medicine, it is necessary to have
two important qualities as a doctor - the first is that it is necessary that you not be disgusted."
The professor uncovered the body, stuck his finger in the butt of the dead body, withdrew it and sucked his finger. Go ahead and do the same thing." he told his students. The students freaked out, hesitated and subsequently taking turns sticking their fingers in the butt of the body and sucking their finger after withdrawing it from the rectum. When everybody was finished, the professor looked at them and told them "The second important quality is observation. ! I stuck my middle finger in and sucked my index finger. Pay attention people!!!!!"

I think u killed a few butterflies in my stomach w/ that joke 😀

thanks ssd

I do believe the class is filled. When they were sending out the second look invites, it said that it was sent to 207 people. And then a week later people got the invites (jmejia). So I'm not sure if he is in the 207 or not.

As to waitlist, my interviewer told me about how last year (might have been 2 years ago) they accidently accepted to many people, and the had to begg people to defer. They ended up with 168 for a 160 class, w/o anybody getting off the waitlist. So I doubt they would do that again this year, so there prolly will be some movement.

I just called my mom and asked her if anything came from USC. She said no so I called USC figuring they would at least be able to tell me my status.

They would not tell me my status and said that the decisions have been made and that those of us still waiting will get something in the mail by next week. *sigh*

Well i got accepted last week, but i'm still waiting for my ucsf acceptance, HOPEFULLY...otherwise damn i'm gonna cry...

By the way, just curious, when did you interview?

UCSFalltheway:

USC said that the decisions have been made and that those of us still waiting will get something in the mail by next week.

My question for you is when did you interview?

If you interviewed in late March or April, you may have been offered an immediate acceptance and those of us who have been waiting for a longer while should be expecting mostly waitlist or rejection letters.

What I'm trying to say is that you may probably be in a different group than waitingimpatiently, kutastha, and myself.

Additional comment: I believe the financial aid information request isn't a good indication to gauge if you were waitlisted, accepted, or rejected. I still need to verify this.. kutastha did you get the financial aid information request?

I think they send out the request automatically to anyone who put down their schools in the FAFSA. I say this because even people who have been rejected have oddly received the request.

Just call my mom.. WaitingImpatiently please check ur PM's

hey hero,

what happened??? i'm curious 'cause i am trying to figure out what's going on

I got a letter w/ 2 sheets.. When my mom read it in her broken English, it sounded like a rejection letter. And she couldn't tell me what the 2nd sheet was about. After talking with WaitingImpatiently, I seem to have hope as that 2nd sheet is most likely a "Alternate List Response Form."

I just hope they didn't over accept this year, and those of us on the waitlist have a chance.

Thank you WaitingImpatiently.. i was seriously going nuts.

Yeah weird - my mom called me too. I usually get stuff at my apartment, but I guess USC is overzealous with the permanent address bull-hudda. I am waitlisted too. Depressing... Well 3 waitlists for me and no acceptances. I guess I have some pretty tense months coming up ahead of me.

I interviewed two weeks ago, and I was emailed an acceptance a couple days after my interview...i just barely received the packet in the mail a few days ago. I applied extremely late and got really late interviews, so i'm still waiting on a bunch of schools, but ucsf is my top choice.

Hopefully you guys get off the waitlist

got the letter today... waitlisted... haha, hope i get off the list soon... my other med school starts in early august

Hi all. Just got back from the accepted students day. Little bit dissappointed because there was no SDNer's there except me and Jefe and Strokchick. I'm pulling for you guys on the wiatlist. Some info that you might want to know:
School starts Aug 12th.
I would estimate about 50% of the people I met were sure they were going to go to USC, 25% was hoping to get of a waitlist at another school, and 25% had mult acceptances and USC was just one of the top ones.
So I think some people will be taken off the waitlist. I would reccommend sending a letter of intent. Good luck you guys.

hrmm, thanx for the info... we'll see if a call to the admissions committee will do more for me now than before...

Jalbreakfast, please check your PM.

I got the alternate list letter today. I will figure out what I am going to do soon.

I actually talked to a number of people that were 99% sure they would not go there. I don't really know why they bothered going, except maybe for a free lunch. So that should be a few spots from the waitlist.

Oh yeah, I went to Monterrey Hills, where most students stay (~75%), and I absolutely love that place. It's 3 miles north of SC, and it's a bunch of apartments on a hill that is kind of isolated from the surrounding area. (don't take that the wrong way) It's kind of like having a suburb in the middle of the city. Lots of very nice apartments and grassy open spaces. Better than the living space of any other school that I had seen. It's also right next to the 110 freeway (north of the traffic), so it is easily accessable.
