for those who have interviewed there for MSTP program in the previous years, is it 1 day or 2 day event?

I'm going to CA from the East Coast on Dec.12-15 to interview at 2 places and it'd be great to interview at Stanford... arrrrrrgh

btw, i submitted their secondary on 11/4

I must suck or something. I still haven't heard anything from them about any portion of my app and I'm not coming up on their weak-ass status check. When did you take the MCATs and have them submitted Chef? They kept giving me this BS about my August scores haven't been filed yet. 😡 😡

Triangulation:
I was an August MCATer, and Stanford sent me a secondary literally the day they got my verified AMCAS. they send you an email telling you that you are 'selected for receive a secondary' then you get a letter in the mail telling that you the same.

I submitted in the first week of October, was verified Nov. 4, and AMCAS transmitted my application to Stanford on October 28th. I have heard absolutely nothing. I sent them an email last Monday, and have gotten no response. I have a 38-40Q on my MCATs, so I would think that I would get a secondary. Anyway, I'm getting nervous...

Wow! AMCAS is verifying applications on Sundays?!?! How do you know they transmitted your application to Stanford on Oct. 28th? You're not going by those dates after your designated schools at the end of the AMCAS app, are you? Those dates just mean they let the schools know you intend to apply, and maybe give them your name and address. But, if you were verified on 11/4, then your app should have been electronically available to Stanford on 11/5. Don't know if Stanford is one of the schools able to take advantage of this, or if they would have to rely on the summary app transmission and then, later, the paper copies that AMCAS is sending the schools. I hear many schools are having a hard time keeping up with the tons of paper that they did not plan on dealing with this year. Anyway, with your scores I'm sure you'll be hearing from them any day. Good luck! 🙂

Shocking, eh? (sorry for the 'eh', I'm Canadian...). It caught me by surprize one day - I'd been checking back and forth every day after getting the X's, and it was verified on that Sunday.

And the October 28th is the date at the bottom of AMCAS. So, yes, it doesn't mean a lot, but it's all I have to go by. After hearing about everybody here who got the secondary right after getting verified, I emailed them a week ago and have heard nothing. If I don't get anywhere with that soon, I'll try calling them.

Any other ideas? Stanford is rolling (although that might not mean a lot this year) and it is one of my top choices, so I don't really want to let this wait too much longer...

hi guys,

My AMCAS was processed on 10/23. I have been in Stanford's database since beginning of Nov. but haven't heard anything since then. I finally called them last week and was told that an invitation for a secondary should arrive in a week or so. (I really hope that's what I heard, paranoid me). For those of you who have been waiting for a while, I suggest that you give them a call just to make sure that everything is there.

Brandonite! call them! i have a fraction of your score, so i don't even know why they sent me a secondary. i think the problem is maybe they lost or misplaced or did something else with your application and that is the sole reason. if you got rejected, it would have come by now, so assume that you did not and find out what happened!

Hey guys,
To make you feel a little better, the delays have nothing to do with the quality of your applications. Stanford admissions office is only using electronically transmitted apps, and not the paper ones at all. They've been having a huge problem getting apps correctly transmitted to them from AMCAS (surprise, surprise). The Dean of Admissions told me that usually by mid-October they've evaluated around 3/4 of the year's total apps, and this year they only evaluated about a fifth of that by then, because so few have come in. There is no rhyme or reason as to who has heard and who hasn't -- it's pretty much the luck of the draw whose apps AMCAS chooses to send first.

Once Stanford admissions office receives your AMCAS, they normally notify you pretty quickly afterwards whether or not you can fill out the secondary. If you did get your app verified a while ago, I would suggest calling them up and checking with them.

I'm not sure if this was good or bad news, but I hope it helps!

judging from the posts above, it's pretty clear that nobody is even close to being interviewed there or is scheduled for one.. oh well I guess I gotta keep my fingers crossed and hope to make a second visit to CA early next year!! 😎

I think many people will be hearing from Stanford this week. It seems they have sent out either secondaries, or in my case, rejections last week. I got my rejection (no secondary requested) Saturday. 🙁

Stanford is definitely interviewing already...
Two of my friends have already interviewed in the last two months and I've seen a few people interviewing every other week or so. I think the delay is probably in the electronic transmission of verified AMCAS apps.

Oh yeah -- forgot to mention that. Stanford is definitely interviewing. They started about a month and a half ago. At first there was only about 1 applicant a day, the last couple of weeks it has picked up to around 3 or 4 per day.

But as far as MSTP interviews, I really don't know. I believe they normally do a 1 day interview, but there are only about 4 or 5 MSTP interview days to choose from. I don't believe that they've started with the MSTPs yet, but I may be wrong.

a nice thing about stanford is that within 2 months of your app being complete, they guarantee you a DECISION as to whether you get an interview or are rejected. my friend (arguably one of the most competitive premeds at columbia) just got rejected w/secondary w/o interview last week.

i personally like all these screenings. i hate being jerked around in applicant limbo waiting for the fickle committees to feel like telling me where i stand. i really dont want to fly all the way to california unless i am a very competitive applicant (i am seriously afraid of flying, btw).

choker, you are right; i rather get screened, i wish more schools were doing it. I actually based the number of primaries i filled out on a probability of getting rejected after initial screenings. I did not get rejected (yet) for a secondary for any other reason than state residency, but i have a feeling i will for UWM, UNC and Wake. it surprises me that state schools are more picky than the 'biggies' like stanford and ucsf.

I'll give them a call today, and see what happens. Maybe I can speed up the process a little bit. Who knows...

Anyway, I completely agree with you guys, choker and lady in red... I hate schools that don't screen, and just ask for your $75 application fee! If they have no intention of admitting you, they should just tell us that and not ask for our money and valuable time! Especially with all the AMCAS problems this year. I don't know how selective schools are for interviews, but flying out to a schools is a pretty big expense, so I would hope that they would only interview those with a realistic shot at getting in.

the story with stanford is that they interview only three applicants at a time. they do interviews every day, but i know that when i was told to go online to schedule an interview in late october there were dates only available through mid-november. this is because they have a huge backlog of applications they haven't finished deciding on. so take heart if you haven't gotten an interview yet - they give them out until april. and if you look on interviewfeedback.com, there is apparently a 'first tier' of their waitlist that is guaranteed a spot in the next year's class if they don't come off the waitlist. this is for people they interview late but still want to admit. this is in regular years, and as this year is anything but, i am sure this will happen again.

stanford is a GREAT school. it was far and away my favorite interview. they only interview 600 people and only let in 240 for a class of 86, so it's a little scary. the admissions process seems a little bonkers, but if you do get an interview, i would definitely make the trip to california.

This can't be true. My application was complete on September 7th and I haven't heard a thing from Stanford.

Yeah, this sucks. I got a 35 on the August MCAT, so I figured I had a good crack at a 2dary, but I just got an EM from AMCAS saying that my app just entered verification a few days ago. If I have to wait until that gets transmitted until being reviewed for a 2dary I'm looking at Christmas Break before I can start pounding it out. What the hell good is the e-transmission of the unverified app to schools if they're not even going to look at it? I would just as soon get slashed now, so I don't have to keep worrying about it. I had a buddy with a 36 MCAT and a solid GPA from Berkeley with research experience who was immediately rejected w/o interview, so I'm not that optimistic. He was 36 when he applied, so maybe that compromised his app, but still a pretty strong CV I thought. This is scary stuff.

Some schools do look at it, and even send out secondaries. If I were you I wouldn't worry so much about this particular app, but just get busy sending out paper copies of your AMCAS app to schools that will accept them and doing the secondaries for your designated schools that have them on-line. You can find lists of such schools at Drako's site. This should keep you busy and distracted enough that you'll calm down a bit and realize that no SDN August MCATer has yet interviewed at Stanford (see the thread re August MCATers getting interview invites) and that Stanford is not BSing you. Remember, you like Stanford (I'm assuming since you want to go there). 😉 It's AMCAS who's the bad guy! 😀

So, brandonite, what'd they say?

I got someone's voicemail, directing me to their website. At least I have a name now, so I can send her an email directly. Perhaps that will get somewhere, as opposed to just the generic email address I had before.

I'll send this new person an email, and then go from there. Maybe I'll get somewhere this time. If not, I'll call again. And again. And again... 😉

Pre-med's can be suprizingly persistent. 😉
