Hey all:

Does anyone know why radioiodine uptake is increased in hashimoto. As I understand it, Hashimoto is an autoimmune destruction of thyroid gland, so there should be less uptake as the gland is getting destroyed.

Thanks

Jo

It has high intake due to chronic stimulation of the thyroid gland by TSH in an attempt to create adequate thyroid hormone for the body, especially early in the disease course. Although in real life it can be higher or lower intake depending on the case.
