Have a chance at D.O?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It seems that your MCAT is about average (from my understanding) and your sGPA is a little below average. That being said, I think these things can be overlooked if you have great EC's and other outstanding achievements in your app. Obviously the better your metrics, the better chances you have. Ergo, if you have lots of time to be able to study and retake the MCAT, then do it. Also, try to do really well in your classes now so that you could bring up your GPA. Even if it doesn't sky rocket up, at least your trend will show an increase, and to some adcoms that matters. Good luck!👍

Hi All,

My mcat is 26 (balanced). My cGPA = 3.3, sGPA = 3.15. ECs are pretty good. Wondering what you all would recommend. Right now I'm thinking apply DO EARLY. How do you think my chances look?

Thanks guys!
Are there any really low grades in science you could retake to take advantage of AACOMAS grade replacement? If you don't already have a steep upward grade trend, are you planning some upper-level Bio next term where As would raise your sGPA and prove your capability?

I literally same exact stats as you, along with great ECs/recs. Hope we both do well. It made me happy to see the responses in this thread!

i have the same stats with a slightly higher science gpa and was very sucessful this cycle getting 5 interviews out of the 13 schools i ended up applying to.

sGPA is on the low side, but you're OK. I'll bet you'll get plenty of interviews.

Your MCAT is okay. sGPA isn't doing you any favors.

Go early, and if you can, broad and you'll probably come out okay. Just be ready to explain for it. Research your schools and know who will screen you out before the secondary.

I'd also like to add that while your getting ready to apply, you should be shadowing a physician and be able to get a letter of rec. To get all of your bases covered, get a DO letter of rec because some DO schools will only take a DO letter. That being said, I think you'll have a great chance of getting in! Good luck.
