Have any of you semi-low stats people applied this early in the cycle and won?

Applied to about 18 schools by now, submitted all my secondaries so far within 48 hours of recieving them

I am on the low end, 3.4 cGPA, 3.1 sGPA, although today I just received two new A's in biology courses in a DIY post bacc I am doing. 26 MCAT.

Since I am applying early in the cycle, is it possible I could get a II?

I am submitting the remaining 12-14 apps tonight.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but you can turn around multiple QUALITY secondaries in 48 hours?????

And to your original question: My stats were a little higher than yours and received one MD II, and 2 DO II, which turned into acceptances. I applied in about mid July with my primary. You did a good job by applying early, that will only help. Are you retaking your Mcat?

Retaking MCAT, Adding 4 new courses of biology, chemistry, and replacing one D when my mother passed away (cell and molec biology ) in the fall.

Well I have recieved 5 secondaries since June 15th, and I dedicate time to each of them. burrell was pretty short, only one legitimate question, Midwestern az and chicago were pretty similar. and the Lake eeries dont really have anything to write about.

Quick question, you mentioned MD, is it even worth applying to the MD programs if I can afford it? I dont have stats but I have a published paper, a few medical inventions, and several general inventions and a kind of cool resume .

Okay, I would say you have a shot at DO. You science GPA is on the low end but with those grade replacements, you should be in good shape (My condolences on the loss of your mom).

At this point, I don't suggest applying MD.

I took it as each turned around within 2 days after receipt vs all turned around in 2 days.

OP: I applied in early July and was accepted with a 501 MCAT. I had a pretty strong app otherwise. So it depends on what you mean semi-low. I definitely think applying early helped and it helped worlds with having sept interviews and being accepted in October.

I am OP, so same stats as I listed above 3.4 GPA, 3.1 sGPA, 26 MCAT, 502 MCAT. I applied to I think 18 programs but I will submit to all schools this weekend.

I had quoted, and was referring to DrMikeP haha I can see your stats above. You should get some love with your stats.

I had around a 3.45 sgpa and 3.6 cgpa along with a doctorate and was director or a psych dept at a major public hospital along with 1000s of clinical hours, couple of yrs with Americorp, degree in engineering, professor at a university with a do program, etc so I'm probably not the best for comparison.

Basically @DrMikeP killed the app cycle with his incredible app lol
Lol... hardly, took a couple of years to fix the gpa from engineering days and I'm older than the traditional nontraditional. But I am very very happy with my acceptance.

We all have compelling stories so it's all about sharing yours with adcoms. I found many I interviewed with to be excellent candidates.

Don't you have a 3rd take of 489?

I did, and it probably will affect me in admissions stats, but I believe the computer screening out is primarily on the best MCAT score, and if I mention it on every thread I am going to get all the salty fake people start yapping about getting a better MCAT score, (which I already know).

Totally get it, sometimes I forget who has posted what. I think a decent amount of schools will just take the highest score

OP, you don't have to reply here but did you have many C's or D's? I'm contemplating applying this year and have a slightly higher cGPA/sGPA but a number of C's and D's. 3 have been retaken for A's and I'm retaking 2 more in the fall. I plan to update my new GPA in December but I would like to apply earlier than that.

I had a period in my undergrad career, a quarter and a half where yes, I had 2 Ds and an F. I replaced the F and the D, and a C, and some other bag grades and now all that remains is one D which I plan on replacing.

I honestly DONT think ad coms spend the time to look at your transcript as much as your gpa and mcat. They say they do but I really feel they do not. I would definitely apply as early as possible IF you want to apply this year. I went through a mini DO cycle last year, and I applied super late, I think Novemberi'sh. At that point many DO schools are filling up their classes and interviews really fast, they stop processing secondaries and stuff as fast and it gets super late.

In reference to cutoffs for DO schools, will the cutoff gpa be in regards to grades without replacement or will only the replaced gpa be factored?

Only the replaced. They don't even know your in replaced GPA unless they calculate it themselves. Ain't nobody got time for that.
