Hi Everyone I know this is a bit of an over discussed topic as of lately but as I think my situation might be slightly different I wouldn't mind everyone's opinion. As the title states I have not shadowed a DO. As a Scribe I have worked with two different DOs for a combined 40-50 hrs. One DO left so I won't have further opportunities to work with her, and the other is now in a different department than were I work I probably won't be able to work with her either. So I can't get an LOR from these two.

My PCP is a DO and I thought about asking him to shadow for a bit, I don't think getting a LOR from him is feasible as I am applying this cycle, am yet to start shadowing but I think it would just give me another talking point during interviews. I still want to express that I have exposure to a DO even though no LOR, should I put this information on my primary application or secondary. Should I shadow my PCP (if he lets me)?

Again thanks in advance

Shadow your PCP sure. Think you can get a letter?

Well I think it would come off super insincere because even if I shadowed them for a few weeks I would have to turn around and ask them for a LOR right away to give them time to write and submit it for my secondaries and such. So I am not sure and would feel fairly uncomfortable doing it.

I would explain the situation to my primary care physician right up front, not wait til after I shadowed them. I'd say, "I need to show these DO schools that I know something about how DO's practice medicine. Can I can shadow you for a few hours and ask you to write a brief letter?"

Yeah that sounds pretty solid, I definitely don't want to come off as insincere, so showing that I am desperate up front would at least be a step in the right direction lol.
