I've never heard of this before, and wondering if anyone can help out.

I got accepted a few weeks, and have been working down my "to do list."
There's a notice on it right now that says that I am missing a few documents that need to be addressed: my college transcripts.

?

So does my medical school require my transcripts to be sent to them?
I'll give them a call in the morning, but just wanted to rattle a few brains here.

Yes. You need to send in an official transcript from your university registrar (just like you did for AMCAS except in this case the recipient will be your medical school).

The school I am attending this year requested that I have my transcripts directly sent.I could understand them asking for official transcripts if you graduated in 2012. However, I thought it was a little strange since I graduated in 2011 but it wasn't hard to do and if its necessary to go to med school I'll do it.

The final official transcript you send will constitute proof of graduation, that you completed all prerequisites the school wants to see with acceptable grades, and also proof that you've cleared any financial encumbrance with the institution and departed in good standing without institutional action/disciplinary issues yet unmentioned.

AMCAS does not forward transcripts to the schools you apply to; they use your transcripts for verification purposes only. So, yes, you do need to send your official transcripts to the school you're going to attend.
