I know that it can be stressful to focus on classes/MCAT/extracurriculars during the schoolyear, so it's nice to get a chance to relax. Have you gone on vacation or done something interesting this break?

For me, I'm doing a NYE run: Umphree's McGee last night and tonight, and then I'm going to Widespread Panic tomorrow and the night after. I haven't been this excited about a string of concerts since I went to Allgood in 2011.

Just got back from a skiing trip to Vermont! One of the best mountains in New England, and accessible by car 👍

Shadowing and volunteering at my dads clinic. I'm working his schedule though which means 12 hours a day for a week. Super interesting and fun but tiring as all hell. Would like to shoot a short film or something before break ends.

I am in the process of beating Leaf Green...that's interesting for me at least 😛

On a more serious note, I'm in the lab fairly often and I'm also doing some shadowing. Nothing too crazy but it keeps me from getting bored.

Well I was flying my helicopter around the Rockies but couldn't find any good cliffs for a wingsuit ski base so my winter has been pretty lame.
Lol, jk.

In all seriousness my relaxing over the holiday consisted of watching cable tv for a few nights instead of the usual MCAT studying that takes up my evenings. It was good to be able to relax for a change

fap fap fap

Amen brotha, and I even have a gf....

I've gone sailing, working on first 5k and I'm going snowboarding in vermont in feb. Things are swell this transitory time between not medstudent and medstudent.

I played lots and lots of far cry 3. Truly amazing game.

Edit: and wrote a pretty bad ass Letter of intent.

1.Study for MCAT
2.Increased Max bench by 20 pounds
3.Of course what every guy does
4.Christmas party
5. My life is pretty boring, So no I didn't do anything epic.

Went to my first basketball game! Clippers vs Kings!

Up until now I have been catching up on some much needed REM sleep after first semester finals. Spent some time with the family. Started looking over a research paper I haven't touched in months. Playing XBOX which I haven't touched in months. Going to the beach.

And then several of tonight's threads happened. I saved from pretty hilarious gifs to my computer for future anti-trolling use. Thank you all that contributed to my stomach hurting from laughter. The fun isn't over yet... 👍

1. Studied for the MCAT.
2. Sat around.
3. Secured a lab position for next term.
4. Studied for the MCAT.
5. Watched football
6. Spent time with family
7. Studied for the MCAT

Yeah, not the most thrilling break of my life.

Reading! I am spending my entire break at my boyfriend's house with his mom, grandma, and brother. I've already read three books and I'm really enjoying it... and I've been playing in the snow, we got 1.7 feet of it. 😀
I got my textbooks for Spring and have been on here a bit... I'm really not very interesting....

Wrote a personal statement
Reviewing all of organic 1
Volunteering
Preparing letters for shadowing
Looking into joining a new research lab

Which books? Now that I don't have my nose deep in an anatomy atlas I am trying to finish up some books I wasn't able to finish before first semester started. I also want to put a good dent in the Song of Ice and Fire series. Not sure how successful I will be.

Complications - Atul Gawande
100 Cases in Clinical Medicine - Multiple authors, comes up in Google search
Fast Food Nation - Eric Schlosser

I am getting ready to start reading 100 Cases in Surgery.

I'm sorry if you were expecting fiction books or anything... I only like to read nonfiction. 😳

Knocked off a 70.3 Ironman in Canberra. Looking forward to Brasil next year.

I'm mostly non-fiction myself. Half my bookshelf is filled with medical-related books I bought and want to read but haven't gotten around to it yet. But I have a soft spot for Sci-Fi.

Some recommendations (if you're interested):

1. The Tell-Tale Brain by V.S. Ramachandran
2. Seeking the Cure: A History of Medicine in America by Ira Rutkow
3. The Professor of Secrets: Mystery, Medicine, and Alchemy in Renaissance Italy by William Eamon
4. Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach
5. The Intern Blues: The Timeless Classic About the Making of a Doctor by Dr. Robert Marion, MD
6. Emergency Doctor by Edward Zieger and Dr. Lewis R. Goldfrank, MD
7. What You Must Think of Me: A Firsthand Account of One Teenager's Experience with Social Anxiety Disorder by Emily Ford
8. Trauma: My Life As An Emergency Surgeon by Dr. James Cole, DO

Took my medication course for work so I can now pass meds and when we took the midterm (hah) got a 100 and made the four nursing students look like chumps. Obviously just being farsicle. It was really easy.
But I also inquired about teaching the CPR and First Aid courses for work since that would be a good "leadership experience" and could round out that category. Other then that, it's pretty much just been work. Now that everything is starting to wind down from the holidays i'll have time to start going back to the gym. God knows I need it. =\

You've read The Intern Blues? 😍 That is one of my favorite books, ever. I love Robert Marion.
I will absolutely look those other books up, thank you! I love new book recommendations!!!! 😀
And I agree with you on sci-fi, but in small doses. 👍

I'm in Bangladesh for my brother's wedding. It sucks because the rest of my family is religious and cultural, whereas I'm the agnostic atheist black sheep of the family with a white girlfriend, so we clash a lot.
