Just wondering if anyone else out there lets their brain wander sometimes.

I am still pre-med, but I can already picture med-school and beyond in my head. Anyways thats not the point my my thread.

Have you ever thought about the chances of messing up, or forgetting something? Years into your career as a Dr in any medical field, not just DO.

Something that you would of learned, and should be simple, but you just plain forget or mess up or something along those lines.

I think about it sometimes, it will not stop me from pursuing my goals, because I know its all in my head. Drs/Nurses/Assistants/volunteers etc. everyone messes up sooner or later.

Just want to know if anyone else ever thinks about the bads that "could" potentially happen.

Thought about it many times actually. As an EMT, vol, student, etc... But sometimes you just have to live in the moment and take the chance.

It can happen. It probably will at some point. But if you ever forget something, go back and research it or ask your colleagues if you're not 100% sure on anything.

I meant like on the spot things. During surgery, or during some procedure, where you wouldnt have time to walk away and do research. Of course you could ask someone else, but I am saying like if you were the attending, and just lose your mind for a minute and forget something, or incorrectly do a procedure or surgery.

I do think about that, but I feel medical school focuses on their students aside from undergraduate where you fend for yourself. I feel you will have to not try to actually fail out. The faculty will be so inviting that they won't let you fail.

Well of course, medical schools will do anything in their power to keep you in and make you graduate. Looks bad on them with higher dropout rates, you want higher graduation rates.

It could happen. But you will not be operating on your own until you have everything down cold. And if your mind tends to wander all the time or you keep forgetting your train of thought, don't become a surgeon. 😉 There are other specialties where you will be fine.

Lol, I know. I wasn't making this about myself, I was just wondering if anyone else's mind ever wandered like that.

There are things I do which I had thoughts about and do just fine.

Kinda like the first time I sky dived, I thought of my chute potentially not opening, but I did it, it worked, and all was fine.

I don't have problems when I am doing something, I am talking about thinking into the future, not the present!

Just don't worry about it now. You can cross that bridge when you get to it. First succeed in med school. 🙂
