For current and former Pharmacy applicants have you ever recycled a personal statement for different schools? Should it be done? Not that i have intentions of doing this!

Lol dude. Have you started pharmcas yet? All schools affiliated with pharmcas get only ONE personal statement. Meaning you only need to write one and they will all see it. So it shouldnt be specifically geared toward one school.

I noticed you have been making a new thread for every question you may have. To avoid redundant threads, please search. Much love.

Apart from the pharmcas personal statement some supplemental apps have personal statements. So I guess the question is, has anyone recycled his/her personal statement for different supplemental applicatons during the addmission process?

Any schools that require a personal essay will pretty much be getting the same thing from me. I might tailor it to fit that school if they are requesting something specific.

A real answer i try to reformat the essay for each school!

I'll add that you should do this with care; many schools might have similar questions, but they are not the SAME questions. These schools are aware of the questions asked of other schools, so if they see an essay hat directly answers someone else's question better than theirs, they won't look upon that positively.

Of course, that's where the tailoring comes in.

^^^Some supp. application dont require Essays to begin with.

I used the same exact PS for dental school and pharmacy school. I just changed dental to pharmacy. SO yes people recycle essays. You will be crazy not too.

To the accepted batch do pharmacy schools like sophisticated essays or straightforward thoughts?

I've had four interviews and we never discussed my personal statement. However, dont make your PS flowery. Get straight to the point and make it professional. This is not a creative writing assignment.

Yeah, get to the point, make it straightforward, BUT use some big words here and there. You want them to think that you are well spoken and have a big vocabulary. I use a few GRE/SAT words that fit very well with my straightforward ideas. You don't want to sound like SDN talk! (Thank god little sister is pre-law or my essay would have sucked! LOL...)

My husband is an editor and he says that one of the biggest mistakes that people make is that they try to sound different while writing than how they talk. I think he calls it "writerly" which isn't a real word but I guess if you are the editor, you can just make stuff up. Now whether or not that applies to personal statements, I don't know but I can tell you that it is noticed and not in a nice way when people try to sound smarter, more sophisticated, etc., than they really are. I'd try and let my natural voice and personality shine through but that is a decision that you will have to make yourself.

Think the University writing center is a good idea?

One danger with using words that you normally wouldn't is that you may use them incorrectly and make yourself look like an idiot. Lots of those tough words have nuance and are used only in a certain context. If you know how the word is used and you see someone use it incorrectly, the effect is jarring. I'd definately have an English major with a huge vocabulary proof the essay so you don't look like you are trying too hard.

Totally agree! My sister is a pre-law/English major that scored perfect on the verbal SAT/GRE and she told me exactly which words to use/how to use them! I had a perfect essay thanks to her. Without her I would NOT have gotten accepted to so many dental/pharmacy schools. Definetly don't use any words you don't know UNLESS you have a professional English person to help you! 😉 And its best to find that person ASAP b/c professional schools want to see big words in PS statements.
