I;m wondering who has submitted their application yet. Do most of you get the idea that late September is about right?

Thanks.

I have... done with all programs except 2... can't decide which ones!

You! Get on it! Now!

Seriously. Every day goes by means you are further down the pile to look through.

Our program got 50 applicants the first few hours of ERAS. Imagine what it will be like in a week. Hurry up!

Q, DO

IS that true? Do programs actually look at applications on first come first served?

What can I do guys? Both the transcript and the LORs are out of my hands. My school moves slower than the slothes at the Bronx Zoo. I'm working on the PS tonight.

Even if the transcripts and LOR's are not in you can still apply and get your name on PDs' desks. Those will be automatically made available as they are completed. For example, our school posts transcripts twice, once when you apply and again in November.

All you really need to apply is a completed CV.

Quinn - one of those 50 was mine.

Apply to the programs; you can do that right now. The PS can be sent separately, but DO IT!! Don't let it slide. This is the next 40 years (unless you're a stud, and want to retire after 20) that we're talking about. You need everything in your favor.

You gotta be in it, to win it!

So you dont have to have all your LOR in before you 'confirm' your ERAS and send it?

Cool! As of today we have a total of about 90 applications so far. I was thinking we'd get more but apparently not... wonder how many the other programs have by now.

So Quinn, how is it on the other side?

Other side of being an intern? Love it. Its a LOT different than being a fouth year medical student. As a 4th year, you are pretty much on brain vacation... just go through the motions and show up. As an intern, though, your role is vastly different... the learning curve is huge. But I love to teach so I'm really enjoying having 3rd year students who are eager to learn.

I hopefully will be helping out in the selection process for our program so if I can give you guys any tips on any errors I see during the interview season, I will pass that along.

Dude,

My application is one of those ninety...do the right thing!

Thanks for all the advice.

L.

I am on the USF desk too

Quinn and everyone else, thanks for all your help!

aaargh! gotta get this done. I hope this is still considered
early-ish. I don;t understand how you DON't need your PS done, since once you certify you can;t change anything, right?

Thanks to all of you for the help, especially Quinn, and the others who are on the other side!

Thanks

As others have said, whatever the delay... get those apps in!!! Its really important to have it in early, even if your app is incomplete!

(hmmm... now I'm curious how many apps our program has gotten so far - will have to look into it 😀)

Your PS is a document, like the LORs, and can be changed until it is assigned to a program and transmitted. Even then, you could write a new one and reassign it. Remember, some folks write two (or more) separate PSs for transitional years etc.

started to write my PS. I have a first sentence in which I am semi happy with.

Is your first sentence "Personal Statement for Emergency Medicine, by grouptherapy"? If so, I think that you should change it. By the way, stop checking SDN and get back to work on your application! 😛

ha ha.

that reminds me. for all you folks out there who plan to hand over a non ERAS CV during the interview, the words, CURRICULUM VITAE should not appear at the top.

anyway ckent, you are right. I will log off now.

Damn it feels good to have the PS monkey off my back. I just submitted, and the only thing I need is my last LOR and my dean's letter.

Another exciting Friday night....Just submitted to 16 programs, mainly in the west. Will probably apply to about 4 more. Just waiting on one more LOR from my EM rotation and my app will be complete....Now on to interviews (hopefully). Good luck to all applying.
