So i am looking at the sections of the KBB. I assume i need to remember every reaction and for each species (alkene, alkyne, aromatic, alcohol, etc)?

Is there any easy way of memorizing these reactions? I know i am going over it the first time in a long time and it seems daunting. I am on the alkenes alkynes chapter. is there a general unifying theory behind all these reactions that I can learn, or do i have to memorize each reaction seprately?

Thanks

kaplan is good place to start.............they group everything accordingly to the functional class of each type of reactant...........your best bet would be to make flashcards of the reactions and do them as much as you can as well as finding online flash cards.............you might want to invest in the destroyer for orgo as well as all the sciences it has roadmaps of every type of reaction you will need to know for the test that would probably be your best bet. Good luck

i do have the dat destroyer. the roadmap is rather confusing at this point, but i guess it will make sense eventually 😳

rewrite every reaction from the book into a notebook, and rewrite those few pages 4-5 times, and you'll easily kill every reaction question on the actual test

The key to memorizing reactions in organic is what the other guys have said...repetition. Write down all the reactions you can find, and either write them over and over on notebook paper, or get a dry erase board. Good luck!

Also, DATkiller made a great point. There's only one sure way to get the correct end products, and that is to understand the mechanism and work through the reaction. Still though, you have to know what the reagents generally do, and for that repetition is king.

I think the best way to learn organic is to understand the mechanisms. If you master that, you can predict most of the reactions. Of course you have to memorize some regents but I would work on the fundamentals.
Also watch chad's videos if you have been away from organic for a while and then do the destroyer.

there's a guy on youtube called freelanceteach on youtube with some very useful video's. It's might be easier than reading
