Hello guys:
I've heard that most dental applicants have eighter graduated or have more than 90 credit hours at the time they start to apply for dental school and will be getting their degrees before matriculation into dental school. Well, my situation is a little bit wiered!!! I filed AADSAS on June/04 and my transcripts got verified today and they are sneding them to schools soon. I have not graduated yet nor do I have more than 90 credits at this time. However, before coming to U.S in 2007, I was a medical student for two years. Unfortunately, i was not able to transfer any credit I took in medical school to here and I had to start all over again and retaking courses even some of which I had taken in high school back in my country. Starting from fall 2007 up to this point, I have taken about 68 credits and right now i am taking 11 credits during summer session 1 and 2. therefore, before fall I will be having about 80 credits and will be taking the rest next year, so that I can graduate next spring. so far i have a 4.0 science GPA and 3.9 overall gpa. i am confident that I can keep my science gpa high as I feel I know all of the courses material by taking them while I was in medical school. my question is do you guys know anyone who had the simillar situation with mine having low number of credits when they applied to dental school? I have sent a copy of my medical school transcript to aadsas to let them know that i have already taken a lot of science courses. do you think dental schools have a kind of cutt off that makes applicant have more than 90 credits at the time they apply? I took the DAT in spring and my score was:
bio: 19
gchem: 21
orgo:21
QR:18
RC:19
TS:20
AA:20
I'm applying to Maryland, columbia, NYU, VCU, Penn. I prefferebly want to go to maryland because I am a maryland residence.
Based on my overall situation, do you guys think I have a chance of getting accepted in any of these schools especially maryland?
I know that it was a long post but I will be greatly appreciated if you can give me some insights and comments about my overall chances.
Thank you and good luck every one!!!!!

Well, my situation wasn't exactly like yours, since I never went to a foreign medical school or anything. However, last year, I was shocked when UNLV rejected my application, so I contacted their admission coordinator to ask her some questions about my application. She was nice enough to pull up my application and read few of the comments the admission officer had made on it. She told me that according to the notes the admission officers left on my application the primary reason they rejected me was that at the time I applied for their schools I did not have sufficient number of units completed at UCLA, which was my undergrad school. I was a CC student and I transferred ~70units to UCLA. But they wanted to see more units completed at UCLA rather than the ones I transferred. Hopefully, you won't experience the same thing, but it is possible that they give you some hard time for not having the sufficient number of units completed.
