Ok so I sent my deposit into LECOM-B last week. I got a great feeling from them after my interview and I decided to visit them again before I sent in my deposit. The second visit went well (It also exposed a few weaknesses) but I still left with a positive impression and since I adore PBL i decided to send my deposit into them. I got accepted into AZCOM and for some strange reason I never really gave them any consideration. I had a positive interview experience with them but just wasn't blown away. I am concerned with the clinical years and the increasing class size, but I am wondering if I dismissed them prematurely and if I should have given them more thought.

A good friend of mine who is a pgy-3 said that if he had to do it all over he would pick the school with the best reputation, but does one of these schools have a far superior reputation than the other??

I don't know what to think...should I just let it be and put my focus on Bradenton or should I pay another deposit and hold my spot at AZCOM??😱

eta. why don'tyou visit both and decide where you feel you fit in.. don't base your decisions on someone else or what they said.

Reputation isn't something to worry about unless you choice boils down to rando state school X or Ivy League Y. In that case, you pick the name so you can push it around, open up doors with it as a key, etc etc. However, as far as DO schools go, there isn't one name that is going to blow someone out of the water, or get you an automatic edge into residencies (my second statement is debatable, but my point is that you couldn't throw it around like 'Harvard'). Go to the school where you fit in the best, and feel like you will expand/get the best education (for you, it sounds like you love PBL, and don't feel comfortable with the expansions at AZCOM ...go for it).

If the money is not a problem and you are truly unsure....pay the second deposit. You'll have six or more months to make up your mind. OTOH, that deposit money would go a long way toward buying books, etc. As for reputation...AZCOM is about 10 years old and Bradenton just turnned four. I don't think that should even be a consideration. Neither has been around long enough.

Agree. 👍

(has hell frozen over? )

Thanks everyone. I just had a little case of buyers remorse and panicked a little that i never really considered AZCOM. I am happy with my LECOM-B decision!

I was in a very similar position to you a couple years ago (more detail here), and in fact LECOM-B started out at the bottom of my list, but after visiting and learning about PBL, it really resonated with me. AZCOM has a great program, but the interactivity of PBL fits my learning style much better than lectures.

You have to live with your decision, so don't let anyone sway you, but for what it's worth, I feel like I've thrived here and have no regrets. After 5 more months of insane studying, I feel like I'll be well-prepared for the boards, and am totally satisfied with my 3rd year rotation site. So far, so good...
