Having trouble finding a DO to shadow..

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It depends on where you live. States that have a lot of DOs obviously will have more who are willing for you to shadow.

If you can't find one through that link, it's best to start cold calling.

I used this link:

http://www.osteopathic.org/YOM/mentor_search.htm

but I got no responses. How did you guys find a DO to shadow?

If you sniff around on the AACOM website I believe it shows all osteopathics that are members of AOA in your state.

Also, contact some DO schools (even ones from far off states) and find out if they have any alumni in your area. Most schools keep track of where their alumni practice since its good recruiting for them.

If there is a large hospital in your area, search their website for physicians. Most major hospitals have a building next door that is just regular doctors offices.

Search broadly. I emailed 10 and heard back from 5 and only 1 was able to fit into my schedule (though both of my parents work at hospitals and knew lots of docs for me to shadow anyway).

Have you asked your premed advisor? They might know of some docs in your area who love having students.
