Probably surplus on the main island (vacation spot) and possibly shortage in the other islands. That will probably change very quickly once UH-Hilo starts graduating some pharmacists.
I doubt the Big island is more of a vacation spot than maybe Oahu. What do you mean by change? How will it change?

I didn't say big... i said the prime vacation spots will have surplus of pharmacists but that is with any location... usually high population areas have surplus. It will probably change since more students from other states will go to Hawaii and might fall in love with the area (or with resident there) and wish to work there. Before pharmacy students would move to areas like maybe California and end up working in cali instead of going back to hawaii.
UH-Hilo will most likely increase HI residents to stay in HI and grap a few from other states as well. Therefore the shortage if there is any will most likely be significantly reduced once UH Hilo starts graduating students
Well I know the Big Island in particular is hurting very badly for primary care physicians and pharmacists. Salary-wise I hear they make about the same on the mainland west coast areas. But you also have the high cost of living, houses start at like 350k+, groceries are ridiculously overpriced - namely produce or anything grown. Myself, being from the midwest, "could never afford living in hawaii". Where i'm from 350k buys an insanely nice house, milk isnt $5.50 a gallon, and the cost of living in general is pennies comparatively.anyone practice in hawaii?
What's it like? expense, cost of living, salary wise.
issue/complaints about the pharmacy practice there?
A new study puts Honolulu as one of the most "unaffordable" cities in the world, at #2. Vancouver, where I am, is #4.

I don't like Waikiki, but that's just me. There's always 12,394,503 people there.

Fair enough, but considering that I haven't gone on holidays for spring break in about a decade, and it is cold, wet, miserable and snowing where I am now, I'm excited. Never been to Hawaii, so I plan on enjoying myself. We have a family friend on the other side of the island, Kailua, so it might be less tourist-crazy there. I'm hoping it won't be as busy during Canadian spring break (Feb13-22) as American spring break (March I think; I would rather kill myself that go to Mexico/Florida during American Spring Break!)
