Found a NY Times article about the following this morning...anyone in Seattle have HBO and want to invite me over??? 😀
Air Date: May 21st, 2006

HBO
Baghdad ER
In 2005, 12-time Emmy winner Jon Alpert and Matthew O'Neill were allowed unprecedented access to the 86th Combat Support Hospital, the Army's premier medical facility in Iraq. Over a two-month period, they followed the doctors, nurses, medics, soldiers and chaplains who were "just doing their jobs" amid the everyday tragedies of armed conflict.

The vérité documentary Baghdad ER chronicles those two months, paying tribute to the heroism of US military and medical personnel while offering a raw, rarely seen look at the casualties of war. Directed and produced by Jon Alpert and Matthew O'Neill; produced by Joseph Feury; edited by Patrick McMahon and Carrie Goldman; supervising producer: Sara Bernstein; executive producers: Lee Grant and Sheila Nevins.

The army is apparently none too happy about the documentary due to the likely effect it will have on public support for the war.

Public support for the war is at an all-time low so I doubt this documentary will make things worse. It looks very interesting, i will definately tune in.

Also just a thought.. Im vs the war and all but perhaps a documentary of the people playing shoot em up at an inner city ED would have a similar effect on the opinion of gang bangers..

I watched this last night. Wow, it was really powerful. Non-stop carnage. I find that when I see soliders on tv news or something, it has a non-human effect on me, but when you see the same guys laying on a operating table w/o all their gear and uniforms, while a surgeon fishes metal from their bodies, it changes the point of view somewhat.

Personally, it makes me hate Iraq. Most of the guys that were injured were National Guard units. I have some friends that are Nat'l Guard members, I hope they don't meet the same end.

This show helps show the absolute insanity going on out there. Did anyone see the doctors talking about how cigar night got cancelled because of a lack of safety? He continued to explain that they got it reinstated by doing it on the other side of the building (to hide) while snipers from various angles watch out for them. These guys aren't even in combat and have to fear for their lives. The people who were shown to be brought in had various eye injuries and some had lost limbs. If you get a chance, I highly recommend watching this!

Any idea if this is going to come out on DVD?
